Chapter 194: Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion
"Aren't you curious why history is changing?"
Hyuga Fuji spoke calmly, "Do you want me to enlighten you?"
"Was it your doing?!"
Future Kitsuchi's expression changed, but he quickly regained his composure as certain thoughts crossed his mind.
"Impossible. Everyone who came to this era was meticulously screened. If you think you can make me suspect Toneri and provoke him into siding with you, it won't work!"
Those chosen for this mission were all trusted confidants of their respective nations.
Naruto and Sasuke were beyond question. Kitsuchi himself was the son of the Tsuchikage, and Mabui was the trusted aide of the Raikage. All were individuals fully trusted by their leaders.
As for Toneri, his role in searching for the second historical text made him the most suitable candidate among the Hyuga clan. In the future, Toneri Hyuga was hailed as the strongest of the Hyuga, with a background and history that could withstand any scrutiny.
To prevent White Zetsu replacements, all members of the mission team underwent thorough examinations beforehand, including genjutsu interrogation and memory probing by the Yamanaka clan. This ensured there was absolutely no chance of imposters or disloyalty.
Thus, Kitsuchi dismissed Hyuga Fuji's words as mere fearmongering.
But just as he reaffirmed his conviction, Hyuga Fuji posed two questions that sent a chill through his heart.
Hyuga Fuji smiled and asked, "Why do you trust the Hyuga clan so much? Is it because I left Konoha without taking any Hyuga ninja with me?"
Why did the Land of Fire trust the Hyuga clan?
This was a question Kitsuchi had never considered before.
The answer seemed obvious, didn't it?
Hyuga Fuji was originally a member of the Hyuga branch family. He must have loathed those branch members who once bowed to the main family. Even when Hyuga Fuji defected from Konoha, he didn't take any Hyuga clan members with him—this was proof enough.
This had been Kitsuchi's belief. But now, Hyuga Fuji's question raised doubts, bringing forth ideas he had never previously considered.
Hyuga Fuji might not accept those rigid, traditional Hyuga clan members. Some rumors even suggested he used them as experimental subjects in his research.
But what about the younger generation who were being educated under his ideas?
Even Kitsuchi couldn't deny that the future education system bore heavy traces of Hyuga Fuji's influence. Many of his ideas were progressive compared to the current shinobi world.
Many children absorbed these ideas, and the younger generation of the Hyuga clan was no exception. Quietly, many admired him greatly.
In fact, people like Naruto, who vehemently disagreed with Hyuga Fuji's views, were a minority. If someone claimed that members of the Hyuga's younger generation had secretly allied with Fuji, Kitsuchi wouldn't be surprised at all.
On top of that, Kitsuchi thought of something even more crucial.
To locate the historical texts as quickly as possible, the Byakugan was indispensable!
The texts required specific chakra to be deciphered, but curiously, they emitted no chakra signature themselves.
Ordinary sensory ninjutsu couldn't detect the texts' presence, and most shinobi would dismiss them as mere unreadable stone tablets.
But for locating objects devoid of chakra, the Byakugan was the perfect tool!
If Hyuga Fuji had learned of their plan to travel back in time, he could have easily laid the groundwork, planting a pawn within the Hyuga clan.
As Kitsuchi's suspicions about Toneri grew, he suddenly glared at Hyuga Fuji and demanded, "Aren't you afraid that I'll return to the future and report all this to the higher-ups?"
He still didn't believe Hyuga Fuji's words entirely.
"Do you think you still have a future?" Hyuga Fuji asked with a smile.
"…Even if I die here, you'll gain nothing. My mind is sealed—you won't extract any information!"
Despite his growing doubts about Toneri, Kitsuchi didn't yield or reveal any additional information.
"I'm not here for intelligence," Hyuga Fuji replied. "I'm simply here as an observer, to witness the power of those eyes."
Hyuga Fuji turned his gaze back toward Ōtsutsuki Shinichi and the others, a faint glimmer of interest in his expression.
To see the power of the Tenseigan firsthand, even if only briefly due to the imperfect purity of Toneri's transplanted Byakugan, was already worthwhile.
As this thought crossed his mind, the blue glow in his eyes began to fade, reverting to what appeared to be ordinary Byakugan.
---
"How does Toneri know space-time ninjutsu? And why did he switch places with Hyuga Fuji?"
Naruto watched the unfamiliar Toneri cautiously, his mind racing. "What exactly is going on with him right now?"
At this moment, Toneri's eyes were vacant, and a dark substance faintly emerged across his body.
His frame trembled slightly as the dark substance squirmed beneath his skin, seemingly searching for an outlet to escape.
The surrounding shinobi, including Ōtsutsuki Shinichi, instinctively backed away, sensing the ominous aura emanating from Toneri.
Some began murmuring, speculating that it might be some kind of forbidden jutsu…
---
"We don't have time to worry about him," Sasuke said, turning to Naruto. "Let Kitsuchi and Yugito from this era keep an eye on him. If Hyuga Fuji and Toneri did switch places, then the situation near Kitsuchi in the future is going to get messy."
Sasuke moved next to Naruto, channeling the power of Susanoo into the battered Great Buddha. "Can your Wood Release still hold up?"
"No problem. Don't underestimate me," Naruto replied, though sweat beaded on his forehead. Seeing Sasuke's calm demeanor, he still couldn't help but pout. "Let's just—"
Naruto's words trailed off as his gaze shifted to Toneri in disbelief.
While they spoke, Ōtsutsuki Shinichi furrowed his brows and ultimately decided to strike Toneri.
Though Toneri's appearance bore some resemblance to his own, which suggested a potential connection, this wasn't reason enough to let him stand in his way.
As a master of puppetry, Shinichi noticed something peculiar—Toneri didn't seem like a living person. Instead, he resembled a puppet… Hyuga Fuji's puppet!
Glancing at his own legion of over ten thousand puppets, Shinichi snorted coldly. "Then let's see what you're capable of."
The moment he finished speaking, tens of thousands of puppets descended from the sky like raindrops, charging toward Toneri from all directions.
In response, Toneri's eyes gradually turned blue. Slowly raising his hands, several small orbs appeared around him, revolving in a circle. A radiant light began to form between his palms.
As he breathed, the light grew brighter and brighter, as though devouring the surrounding glow. The shinobi present held their breath, their attention captivated by the sight.
"Tenseigan?!"
Ōtsutsuki Shinichi's expression shifted drastically. Without hesitation, he abandoned all pretense and immediately took to the skies, distancing himself from Toneri.
In Toneri's hands, the silver light began to spin faster and faster…
"Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion!" Toneri shouted, thrusting his hands forward.
A silver storm shot forth like an arrow, carrying devastating power. Wherever it passed, the air tore apart with an ear-splitting roar, and the edges of the storm shredded everything in its path.
Even the remnants of the meteor crumbled like paper before it!
The storm carved a deep trench into the ground, sending sand and dust flying. When it collided with the mass of puppets, a deafening explosion erupted, and the massive shockwave swept across the battlefield. Even distant shinobi had to retreat to avoid the blast's aftermath.
When the dust settled, a vast crater was all that remained. Everything in its vicinity had been razed to the ground, and only the fading silver glow lingered in the air.
