A Knock

Selena's breath was still uneven, her lips swollen from Alex's relentless kisses when the sudden knock on the door sent her entire body into shock.

Her heart nearly leapt out of her chest. The heat, the tension, the way Alex had pressed her against the wall—it all came crashing down in a wave of mortification.

She stiffened, her hands pressing against Alex's shoulders as panic replaced the haze of passion. The knock came again.

"Selena," Lucien's voice called from the other side.

Selena froze. Alex, however, didn't seem the least bit bothered. If anything, he was more irritated by the interruption.

His grip on her waist didn't loosen, his lips trailing back to the exposed skin of her neck, clearly intent on ignoring whoever was outside.

Selena's face turned scarlet. "Put me down!" she whispered urgently, shoving at his chest.

Alex let out an annoyed sigh but obeyed, slowly setting her back on her feet.
