Chapter 49: The Trial

Days passed, and still, there was no news about her father's case.

It was as if no one even bothered to inform them of what was happening.

Eleanor clenched her jaw as she sat by the window, staring blankly at the vast gardens outside. The flowers had begun to wilt under the growing cold, their once-vibrant colors now dulling, much like the life inside their household.

"You should stay strong, Lady Eleanor," Lady Mariel said. Staring at her sadly.

Eleanor sighed. "I am trying, Lady Mariel, but the waiting was killing me."

Lady Mariel had been her support since the events happened. She always visits her to check up on her and Duchess Aveline.

"How about Prince Adrian? Did he already tell you anything?"

Eleanor took a deep breath. Even Prince Adrian had yet to send an update.

She had trusted him. She had believed in his promise to investigate. But silence stretched between them like an unspoken betrayal.

"Not yet."
