Words spread about Fenrir's absence fast. His absence from the streets caused a stir in New Portland, and soon enough, the spies began reporting back to their masters that Fenrir was bedridden.
Mary Ann played her part well, acting worried whenever anyone inquired about Fenrir's health. Rui, too, remained in character, expressing frustration over being unable to meet with him.
"I'm concerned," Mary Ann told one of the council's men who approached her at the estate gates. "He's been unwell for days. He's usually so strong, but now…" She sighed, shaking her head. "I hope it's nothing serious."
The spy left, satisfied with the information.
Meanwhile, Fenrir was far from bedridden.
