It felt like someone smashed my bones then rearranged them in an order that made no sense. It was hard to even think of lifting my arm or leg. Everything in me felt fragile.
Water… I needed water. My tongue was so dry, and for heaven's sake, was the room filled with heat pads? It felt like the heat alone would finish me.
At last, Luke noticed me, and immediately came to meet me.
"Ari, how do you feel? Do you feel…"
"Hot." It was the weakest sound I'd ever produced. I couldn't even finish it. I ended my word right after the vowel sound.
"Hot? You feel hot? Is that what you said?"
"Wa… water." My voice came out like the breeze.
"Water." Luke immediately raced to the little fridge, and I looked at the doctor, who bowed to me.
"So you mean you can't do anything to make her feel better." Luke said, with gritted teeth, pouring water into a jug.
