Loud thunder startled her awake; the first thing her eyes focused on was the dripping coming from the roof, the second thing her eyes focused on was the warm fire, but the third thing her eyes focused on was him.
He was shirtless; his back muscles flexed as he breathed, wet from the rain. He was slightly bent over a fire, his shirt hanging over a chair.
"Were are we?"
He stood straight and looked at her, and her eyes drifted slightly to his midsection before meeting his eyes.
"Do you not recognize it?"
She looked around, and it hit her; this was Kaedes hut. Kagome pulled the blanket closer, and that's when she noticed her skirt and shirt were missing. Her face heated.
"You saw me naked!"
"You are not naked,"
True, she had a bra and panties on that were not much different than a swimsuit, but still.
"Im half naked!"
"So I am Miko, but you do not see me barking at you, or did you wish to die from an illness?"
She calmed; he could have left her for dead, let her cry in her own pity at the bottom of the well, and yet he followed her.
"Why did you follow me?"
Sesshomaru wrapped his hair in his hand and then pulled it up and placed it in a ponytail, and she watched in amazement at every muscle that moved.
"I simply wished to do so,"
Kagome looked away, too afraid she would blush. He looked ten times better with his hair up.
"Have you come to terms?"
Kagome closed her eyes. "No, yes, I dont know," She was suddenly so tired.
Sesshomaru walked closer and sat in a chair. "You are aging slower; I believe soon you will stop aging,"
Kagome slowly looked at him. "What?"
"While you have-" He had to think of how to say this without sounding crude.
"Become a woman since I last saw you; you have not aged,"
She almost wanted to laugh. "There are a lot of advances in my time,"
"It is no longer your time, Miko, and I can sense it; your heart is slower, your scent is different, your blood; you are no longer mortal,"
Wasn't this too much for one night?
"We will confirm it once the storm passes,"
"You can hear my heart?"
"When I wish to focus on it,"
She swallowed. "And my scent?"
"All humans smell different and yet the same; you no longer smell like them,"
"And my blood?"
Speaking of, he grabbed her foot and pulled,
"Hey!"
Pulling her leg out from under the cover, he inspected her knee. "Your blood has always smelt different; there is power in it, but it has changed,"
He picked up a cloth from the table and wrapped her knee, letting the cloth soak up the blood.
God, what would Inuyasha think if he barged in here right now?
"Even if you found a way to return, it would be unwise for you to do so,"
"Why?"
"Did you not once tell me that there are no demons in your time,"
"None that I know of,"
"Would you wish to be the only immortal?"
He let go of her leg and held out his hand, clearly waiting for the other; this time, she offered her leg to him.
"Simply put, Miko; you are meant to be here now,"
"But why? I'm not even mentioned in the books," Kagome ran her hand through her bangs. "Maybe I die,"
"Apparently, we all die,"
"Who knows now, every time I come back here, I risk changing the future,"
"Perhaps that is what you are meant to do,"
"But if I had-" She stopped when he glared at her. "What?"
"There is no sense in trying to make logic out of it; you being here is not logical; if you do not return from this point on, everything you knew could be different, even at this very moment."
It was so much to process.
He wrapped her knee and released her. "Did you hurt your hands?"
Kagome showed her hands to him. "They are fine, just a bit scratched, is all,"
The brown blanket fell, and his eyes drifted to her breast, which was hidden by a pink lacy so-called bra. He recalled bringing her in and laying her down. He worked quickly to start a fire and removed his shirt; then it dawned on him he would have to remove hers; if he didn't, she would become ill.
The weather had become too bad to take her back to his home, to which a female servant could help.
So he removed her top, placing one of his knees on the bed; he pulled her top off, and at first, he didn't look, but the bra caught his eyes, and the swell of her breast wet from the rain caught his eyes. He quickly removed her skirt and covered her and went to the fireplace and stared at the fire.
Sesshomaru stood and walked back to the fireplace and looked at the flame. "Get some rest,"
Kagome laid down and turned her back to him. How could she possibly rest? How could she possibly sleep? How could she pretend to be ok?
She balled herself up, and he smelt the tears. "I can't," she whispered. Once upon a time, pretending was easy; of course, that was when she was younger and naive.
Sesshomaru glanced back at her; she looked so small and helpless, and he half expected his brother to come barging in to save her. But Inuyasha wasn't coming.
That much was clear; he hoped the weather would clear so that they could seek answers, but then what? What if she was immortal now? What if her being here was tied to her wish?
Was he going to leave her to figure it out on her own, or would he help her figure it out all?
He looked back at the flames. He could pretend not to care, but the fact was he did, and he didn't know why.
He hung his head; he knew why or at the very least, he had a suspicion.
