"Well, I'll be damned!" Kouga stated upon seeing Sesshomaru, "The Ice prince himself,"
"Perhaps I should return the gift I brought since you wish to insult my person,"
They stood about eight feet apart from each other.
"You brought me a gift?" Kouga asked, slightly confused.
That was Kagome's queue, and she stepped from behind Sesshomaru "Hi, Kouga,"
His smug smile vanished. "Kag, Kagome?"
"It's really me,"
Kouga rushed to her, picked her up, and twirled her around before setting her back down. "Kagome!"
By this time, the whole tribe was behind him, everyone seemingly happy to see her once again.
"Lady Kagome, your back," Ayame comes forward, holding the hand of a small child.
"How are you back?" Kouga asks,
Kagome shrugged. "Who knows,"
Kouga looks up at Sesshomaru, who stares blankly at him, and Sesshomaru knows all too well that the wolf prince has questions.
"Have you seen dog boy?" Kouga asks,
"No, have yall?" Kagome asked,
Ayama shakes her head no.
"Ah well, who needs him? And besides, this is a party!" Kouga lifts his son up. "Kagome, meet my son,"
"Hello," She smiles at the child who wags a tail, it not being long enough to wrap around himself.
"The festival starts tomorrow; I'll have a den made up for yall," Ayame bows slightly,
"Do you want some help?" Kagome offers,
"Sure,"
As they walk off, Kagome smiles at Ayame. "After traveling with him, I could use some girl time,"
"I bet, brave; I dont think I could last but a few minutes alone with that guy,"
They giggle.
Meanwhile, Kouga puts his son down, and he runs off to play.
"So, still no word from your brother and his kid?"
"Clearly,"
Kouga begins to walk, and Sesshomaru follows.
"How did she end up with you?"
"Her well is on my lands,"
"She been here long?"
"No,"
Sesshomaru could sense the anxiety in the wolf,
"Does he know about Inuyasha?"
"Indeed,"
"I take it she's not going after him?"
"No,"
Kouga looks away. "Good, that's good,"
But still, he seemed anxious.
"Anyway, want anything to eat, or drink?"
"No,"
"Suit yourself,"
A bonfire was lit, and many males from the tribe hung around it with food and drink while kids ran off in the background under the watchful eyes of the mothers.
Hours ticked by with dancing and laughter, all of which Sesshomaru observed and did not partake in. Kagome and Ayame seemed to be just fine in the dens with just each other because they did not come out.
Sesshomaru watched as the wolves goofed off until, one by one, they all fell out from either drink or exhaustion.
Till only he and the wolf alpha remind.
Kouga stood, while Sesshomaru sat, one knee bent up, his back against a rock.
"You think the well will take her again?"
"I do not think,"
"What?"
"I know,"
"Know what?"
"That it will not,"
"And how do you know that,"
"The wish brought her back, and it was sealed from the other side; she is where she is meant to be,"
Kouga raised one eyebrow as he sat down, the now small fall between them.
"So she is stuck here, for good?"
Sesshomaru didn't need to answer him. Kouga ran his hand through his hair. "So what is she going to do?"
"She will return with me,"
"You?"
"Are you going to repeat everything I say?"
"What about that monk and slayer?"
"They are also living on my lands,"
"K," Kouga leaned back. "You sure have changed a lot,"
"Not that much," His tone somewhat changed, and any demon male would know it was a treat; he was still a treat, deadly.
"You dont do anything that doesn't benefit you, so what gives?"
"My reasons are my own."
"Yeah, well she's my-
"Careful wolf,"
"I was gonna say friend," He showed a fang. "She's my friend,"
"As I said, the jewel brought her back for a reason,"
"And you think it has something to do with you?"
Sesshomaru stayed silent,
"And what does she think?"
"I do not know,"
"Wait, you haven't told her have you? That you think it has to do with you?"
Kouga laughed,
"The Miko has knowledge of our future, much of which has already come true,"
Kouga stopped laughing,
"My brother is gone; the monk and slayer now live on my lands,"
"And?"
"I mate a powerful, beautiful mate and have children, two of which rule in my place all of North, East, West, and South,"
Kouga blinked and sat forward, and looked Sesshomaru eye to eye through the burning fire. "You decided that it's her,"
"I did not decide anything,"
Kouga smirks. "I assume you also have not told her this."
"No,"
"Why her?"
"She is both powerful and beautiful and has returned due to her wish; it has linked us, the cords entwined,"
"You and I both know the wish ain't got nothing to do with it, the future eh only foretold what is written before birth, and no jewel or wish can break the bonds of thread; only death can do that, and brother, she ain't dead,"
Sesshomaru looked away,
"When."
Sesshoamru looked back at him,
"We, did you realize she was your mate?"
"When she returned and told me my fate,"
Kouga didn't move, didn't speak,
"Perhaps before,"
More silence; Sesshomaru didn't know why he was telling any of this to the damn wolf,
"It was you that kept going to the well, not your brother,"
Sesshomaru did go to the well a few times after she left, at first he didn't know why he was so drawn to it, but he was, and every time he could swear he could feel it move within, soon after he started gathering up lands and setting up boarders all around it, why, again he didn't know.
But some part of him almost missed her. He would go to the well; she would visit in his dreams.
He realized at some point that he was just, waiting. Why, he didn't know.
When she was brought before him, it took him several minutes to believe it to be real, and the urge to just touch her was all too real, and as he learned more and more from her, about his future, he knew why. Why he went to the well so much, why he was building up lands, why he was waiting.
It was for her.
Why he moved the slayer and monk, why he was here now. It was for her.
"She is my mate,"
