Sophia leaned in closer, eyes sharp.
"You spent the whole day with him… AND you defended him just now!"
Her face darkened.
"Tell me, Hazel… you haven't fallen for him, have you?!"
Hazel nearly choked on air.
"What?! No!" she exclaimed.
"I was just… showing him around campus!"
She wasn't lying, exactly. But considering Luke had carried her around like a trophy all day, she wasn't sure her argument was very convincing.
Sophia narrowed her eyes further.
"Hmm… alright," she said slowly. "But stay away from him. He doesn't seem like a good person."
Hazel sighed.
"Fine, fine," she said.
But deep down…
She wasn't so sure.
Later that night, Hazel lay in bed, staring at her phone.
Her fingers hovered over Nate Dawson's contact.
After a moment, she typed a message.
"Brother Nate, I met an interesting person today..."
But after staring at the text for a while…
She deleted it.
