Meanwhile, beyond the radius of Lion City's upheaval, three figures hovered in midair. Luke, Elias Vaughn, and Hazel Ross had managed to flee the immediate danger zone.

From this vantage point, they could see the full enormity of the pale, mountainous snail that supported the once-great metropolis on its shell.

Towering spires of cracked concrete jutted out from the snail's back, forming the broken outlines of city blocks.

"I've…never seen anything like this," Elias breathed, steadying himself against gusts of wind that threatened to knock him off-balance. His eyes were wide, flicking between the monstrous form and the swirl of ominous clouds overhead.

"It's unbelievable," Luke agreed, still trying to make sense of the sight. "A creature of this scale should be radiating raw hostility, but I can't feel its presence the way I normally sense a demon's aura."
