Ch. 92 - The Great War! [29]

[Rioval Phenex PoV]

My name is Rioval Phenex, one of the heirs of the Phenex clan along with my older brother Juval Phenex.

I may be one of the heirs but the chances of my older brother taking the head position is higher than mine.

Not only because Juval is an Ultimate-class devil and a prodigy when controlling our infamous phenex flames but he's also older and more favoured by my father than me.

However, just because he's the favoured one doesn't mean I'll give up.

I've been coveting being the head of the wealthy Phenex after witnessing how my father's presence made our entire military worth millions of devils regard to him with the utmost respect.

Not to mention, father has tens of women ready to service him along with my mother, his wife.

In the Underworld, with enough strength, you can have almost anything you want and no one will question you.

I want them all, the privileges, the status, the respect and even the respect of both my older brother and father.

I've endured everythjng that the world has thrown at me and now, it's time to show everyone my worth.

I'll prove to my father that I'm a much better heir than Juval!

That's why when I heard that the Phenex clan, one of the pillars with a strong military strength was called upon by Lucifer himself to lead our army and join in invading the human world, I wasted no time in begging my father to let me join.

Unfortunatrly, although he agreed as long as I stick to Juval so I won't kill myself on the battlefield.

Heh, do I still look like the same kid back then that they thought was weak?

No, I'm a grown man now, I can handle myself.

During the clash with the angels, I wasted no time in separating from Juval's side, ignoring his yell of command for me to come back as he called my name.

I ignored everything around me and focused solely on the angels charging straight in front of me.

I'll show them. I'll show everyone who I am and what I am capable of!

Confident in my clan trait of being as immortal as a Phoenix, I gritted my teeth in pain as the burning sensation of the holy energy stabbed through my torso.

As long as I keep pouring Demonic Energy into my body, I can heal myself even from our supposed weakness.

With a wave of my hand, I unleashed my own fiery flames to combat against the angels.

It was very effective. Do they think their Holy Energy are enough to kill me? I'm a Phenex royalty! I'm immortal, nothing in this world can kill me!

I continued my onslaught on the angels, laughing gleefully in the process.

This, this is my chance to prove myself. Juval and Father kept me away from something like this, they probably thought that exposing me to this would allow me to outshine them.

Well, I won't be living under their shadows forever. Not anymore!

Unfortunately, my first taste of freedom didn't last that long as I heard that an a mere human was causing problems to the Bael devils.

Tch, as expected of them. Although their destruction energy is strong but without any traits that would help them survive in a battle like me, they're considered weak.

After being sent the exact location of the human troublemaker and how the Bael army General was ordering the Phenex clan to deal with the human, I clicked my tongue.

Who do they think they are to command me?

They should be thankful, I'm looking to beat this human that is causing trouble or else I would show them how hot my flames are.

I was the first Phenex to quickly rush towards the said location.

Upon my arrival, I was greeted with the scenery of the Bael clan members on the ground, dead.

Looks like the human is indeed trouble.

"You. Did you do this?" I pointed my finger at him and asked, which sounds more like an order for him to answer my question.

"Why'd you ask?" The human with an orange robe and a smooth white mask shrugged his shoulders as he answered me with a casual tone.

How arrogant.

Doesn't matter, his arrogance won't last long now that I'm here.

I'll make sure to wipe it off from his face.

Now that I got close to him, I noticed that a weird circular orange shield with a bloody edge can be seen on his left hand while the other bore the same color looking but different weapon, it's a long whip.

Are those his weapons? They don't even look that much and those Bael weaklings are losing from just this?

My confidence immediately so soared after seeing this.

Once my father got the word of me killing the human that is causing the Bael's trouble, he would definitely consider me as the new heir!

Snorting at the pesky human, I lit a fireball on the top of my palm before hurling it towards him.

Instead of attacking again, I simply watched how he would defend himself from my fiery fireball.

To my surprise, the orange small shield with bloody edges on his left hand suddenly expanded and he uses it to swat it back to me.

I held back a snarky remark as I raised my hand in order to intercept the reflected fireball, intending to absorb it back to my Demonic Energy reserves.

That's when something unexpected happened. The small and dispensable fireball suddenly enlarged and turned into the size of a huge boulder, enough to engulf me.

My eyes quickly widened in surprise and in panic, I accidentally forgot how to dodge and was left with no choice but to use my forearms to defend myself

Boom!

My enlarged fireball, which I'm supposed to be immune at as Phenex members are supposed to be immune to flames, burned my upper body.

The searing burn on my forearms made me smell something that I've never known I would smell in my entire life.

The smell of my burning meat.

'Why? Why am I not regenerating?!' My eyes widened in fear as I stared at the burnt muscles on my forearm.

I tried pumping Demonic Energy into my body to enhance my regeneration but to no avail, the burn was still there and there's no trace of any healing flames that should appear when a Phenex heals.

This can't be!

I tried to back away but before I could do so, the human disappeared from where he was and reappeared beside me.

Seeing his figure from my peripheral figure, I quickly unleashed my fiery flaming wings and tried to fly away only for him to wield his orange whip with ease and managed to catch my ankle.

'No!' Panic surged inside me and the flap of my wings intensified.

With a quick tug, I was pulled back to the earth, my head turning and watching as the bloody orange shield swiped toward my arm.

Slice!

"GAAAARGGHHH!" For the first time in my life, I felt a pain that I've never thought I'd feel.

I quickly clutched my severed left arm, trying to stop the bleeding.

'How?! How?! How can he nullify my regeneration abilities!?' I screamed inside my mind, asking a question that wouldn't be answered by anyone but the human in front of me.

With the whip still latched on my ankle, I was unable to get away.

I felt like a bird with its wings clipped.

I feel powerless in front of this human.

The human then slowly walked towards me, the sound of his footsteps matching every beat of my heart.

As if death herself has come to claim my immortal self.

No, I'm not ready yet! I don't wanna die!

As if in cue or perhaps the Satans has forsaken me, I heard the voice of my older brother, Juval.

"Rioval!" Turning my head to him, relief was plastered on my face.

For the first time, I was grateful to see my brother's face.

With him here, I would be safe. My brother would save me.

"They're taking a bit too long to rescue you, don't you think?" Suddenly, my thoughts were snapped by the human's whisper.

"W-What do you mean?" I shivered and my voice stuttered.

Instead of giving me an answer, my eyes saw something that would only see once in my life time.

The bloody orange shield on his hand swiped over my neck in a swift manner.

'Huh?' Why do I feel no pain?

Did he miss?

Oh…

Why did the human turn upside down? Is he standing on a ceiling? Is there even a ceiling in the battlefield?

My vision. It's darkening. Oh no. I'm dying aren't I?

Mom, dad, Juval. I'm afraid of the dark.

With those words ringing through my head, darkness clouded my vision forever.

The last thing I heard was the resounding cry of my older brother.

"RIOVALLLL! NOOOO!"

***

"RIOVALLLL! NOOOO!"

Turning my head to another devil, I noticed that this man looks slightly similar to the Phenex devil that I just killed?

Dirty blonde hair and dark blue eyes. The only difference between this guy and the devil whose head I'm stepping on is that the former has a small goatee and looked older than the latter.

An older brother or father perhaps?

I saw him kneel on the ground while shock can be seen in his eyes before closing them as he fought off the tears.

The moment he opened his eyes again, he was already glaring straight to my skull.

"You'll pay for killing my brother!" Well, there goes the answer to my question.

Instead of answering him, I decided to provoke him by gesturing for him to come at me.

My senses already told me that this guy is currently the one leading the army of the Phenex clan and that he's an Ultimate class devil.

I wonder how will I fare to an Ultimate class devil? With just Eldrict Magic?
