Rohan arrived at the gate and sat down by the door.
Seeing him and the group of men behind him, Uson said, "Are you being followed again, Rohan?"
"Yes."
"Damn, I can't imagine what you did to make Mai so angry with you."
"I just got her name wrong."
"That's it?"
"Well, at first, I made a mistake without meaning to..." Rohan then explained the whole situation with the green rune that had made Mai angry with him.
Uson said, "Hm, I see, but she already made you go several days without picking up any runes the other time. I think your debt has already been paid. She's overdoing it."
"I agree, but don't worry, I'll make her regret doing it."
"Hm? How do you plan to do that?"
"Come closer, and I'll tell you. I don't want her minions to hear."
Uson approached Rohan, and he began to explain what he was planning to do, which caused Uson to widen his eyes and say, "Are you serious?!"
"Yes, of course."
"You know that if you do this, your relationship will be irreparable, right?"
"Yes, but I've had enough."
"I see. Well, I'd like to tell you not to do it, but I can't deny that it's going to be fun watching this situation develop."
"Well, enjoy the show."
Some time passed, and people began to return from the forest. Gradually, several groups of people passed by and were surprised to see Rohan sitting by the city gate.
Dominic passed him at one point and said, "What are you doing here? Have you given up on getting the runes and decided to become a city guard? That's a great decision on your part. After all, you certainly wouldn't be able to get all the runes for the proceedings."
Rohan didn't want to waste time with Dominic and said, "Yes, you're right. It was the best decision I made.", and then turned towards the forest, waiting for Mai to return.
Seeing this, Dominic ignored him and entered the city gate.
Some more time passed, and Karin passed through Rohan.
Seeing him sitting at the city gate, she stopped for a while, then went to Uson's side and said, "Looks like something interesting is about to happen, doesn't it?"
Uson said, "Well, I can't deny it. Do you want me to explain the situation to you so you understand the context?"
"No need. It probably has something to do with Mai, right? The two of them got into a fight over something that happened in the dispute over the first green rune. Mai has already retaliated once, but it seems that she doesn't intend to stop there."
"Exactly. You seem to be well aware of the situation."
"Yes. After all, it's the only major conflict that's happened so far."
Some more time passed, and Mai was finally returning to the gate with a group of people. Seeing this, Rohan got up and went over to Uson, who handed him something in disguise without letting anyone see.
Mai approached the gate, and the group of men who had been following Rohan came towards her to greet her. She greeted them back and then looked in Rohan's direction.
She came towards him and said, "What are you doing here, Rohan? You probably want to talk to me, but I'll save you the time. Nothing you say will change this situation. I told you you'd regret provoking me."
Rohan said, "Excellent. I was actually thinking of trying to talk to you, but since you've told me that nothing will change, there's no reason for me to waste my time."
"Exactly. Now, if you'll excuse me, I intend to go inside to rest. Something you won't be able to do in a few days."
"I wouldn't be too sure about that."
"Oh, that's right. You've got that friend of yours, Welli. How long do you plan to make him pay for things for you? That'll end your friendship."
"Don't worry about it. I won't need to ask him for help. After all, I have enough runes to pay for my things for several days."
"No need to lie, Rohan. You should have at most ten runes on you."
"Well, why don't you look and tell me."
Rohan then opened his rune pouch and showed the thirty white runes he had accumulated.
Seeing this, Mai and the people around her were surprised. Thirty runes wasn't that many, but considering what she had done to hinder Rohan so far, it was inconceivable that he would have that many runes.
Mai said, "How did you accumulate so many runes?"
Rohan said, "I can't talk about my secret with so many competitors around me, can I?"
"Yeah, you're right, but don't be so happy with those runes of yours. After all, you won't be able to get any more runes from today onwards."
"Hey, you don't have to be jealous just because I have more runes than you."
"Hm? What are you talking about? Do you really think you have more runes than me?"
"Of course. Thirty runes is not an easy number to get."
"Pfft, you really don't know what you're talking about. Thirty runes may be hard for you to get, but don't put the rest of us in the same boat as you."
"Yes, yes. There's no need to make excuses. I wasn't planning to show off with those runes. I just wanted to prove that I had enough to survive for several days."
"You really think you have more runes than me. I feel sorry for you. Take a look."
Mai opened her rune bag and showed the runes she had. There were a total of twenty-five white runes and seven green runes.
When he saw this, Rohan was surprised but then said, "It seems I wasn't mistaken. I actually have more white runes than you. It's impressive that you only have this many white runes after all this time."
Mai said, "Are you kidding? Don't you see the green runes? If it weren't for them, I'd have a lot more white runes."
"Yes, yes, more excuses. Is that all you know how to do?"
"They're not excuses, just the truth. Besides, it's not just because of the green runes that I have so few white runes. I was also paying the people who were accompanying you with a few white runes a day."
"Yes, yes. That's certainly true."
One of the men following Rohan then said, "She's telling the truth. She really did pay us."
Rohan said, "Of course you'll agree with her. After all, you're working for her."
"Well, if you don't believe me, look here."
All the men opened their rune pouches and showed that they had around sixty runes each.
"You see. There's no way we could have had all those runes without having received payment from Mai."
Seeing this, Rohan smiled and said, "I don't know what you're talking about. You still have fewer runes than me."
One of the men said, "What? Are you saying that you have more runes stored up, or have you just gone mad?"
"I'm not crazy. I have one more rune saved up."
"One rune? How does that change anything? Even if it's a green or blue rune, it's not worth enough to compensate for the thirty runes between us."
"Well, that's where you're wrong. My last rune is neither green nor blue but black."
"What?! Are you saying you've found a black rune?"
"Yes."
"Stop lying. The black rune is the hardest to find of all. No one has found a red rune so far, and you're saying you've found a black one?"
"I'm not lying. I'll show you, but before I do, I have to correct something else you said."
"Hm? What is it?"
"The distance between our runes is not thirty, but one."
"What are you talking about?"
Rohan didn't answer him, smiled, stretched out one of his hands towards Mai and the men, and then opened it.
Darkness overtook Rohan's surroundings, but soon afterward, his runes, lying on the ground, lost their light. This caused a huge flash around his hand and revealed the black rune to everyone.
Everyone was surprised to see the black rune, and Mai thought, 'Did he really find a black rune?! How did he get it?'
While everyone was distracted thinking the same thing as Mai, Rohan said, "Hey, don't get distracted. The show has just started."
Just then, the light from the runes of the men who had been following him and Mai began to head towards the black rune.
This surprised everyone there, and before they could even say anything, all their runes had lost their light.
