In the Martial Arts Dojo of Master Mustard, Southeastern Plains Isle of Armor.
When Mustard led Stephen and the others into the dojo, a group of young boys and girls dressed in kung fu outfits, none older than fifteen, greeted them in unison:
"Greetings, Master and Mistress!"
"Mm-hmm~ You've all worked hard in training. This old man is back!"
Mustard waved in response.
Rose introduced to Stephen:
"Mr. Mustard established this dojo on the Isle of Armor after his retirement and has taken in many disciples. You could say that all the current young Gym Leaders of the Galar League, in one way or another, have received guidance from him."
(A reference to the in-game lore where Galar Gym Leaders train on the Isle of Armor.)
Hearing this, Stephen glanced at the children in yellow kung fu uniforms and immediately recognized a few familiar faces—
One girl, around 10 years old like Iono, had silver hair and brown skin. She had a tomboyish aura, but on closer inspection, her delicate features and bun hairstyle made her look quite adorable.
Another was a chubby boy with a noticeably rounder physique than his peers. However, upon closer examination, he had decent facial features, suggesting his parents were likely good-looking.
Noticing Stephen's gaze, Rose promptly introduced them:
"Great eye, Dr. Stephen! These two are our Galar League's Second Generation Gym Leaders—Bea of Stow-on-Side and Gordie of Circhester Stadium."
As Rose introduced them, Bea and Gordie also secretly observed Stephen.
Bea thought to herself:
"A genius scientist who invented the TM and the Pokédex? Even if TMs can greatly reduce training time, truly bringing out a Pokémon's power still requires relentless practice."
Compared to Bea, who was focused on perfecting her martial art, Gordie had other concerns.
As an avid internet user, he had seen plenty of gossip about his mom and Stephen.
"So this is my new dad…? While I was away, that old hag was eating this well?"
Gordie muttered internally.
That's right—he was Melony's son.
However, since childhood, he had been passionate about Rock-type Pokémon, while his mother, Melony, wanted to train him as an Ice-type specialist like herself. This clash in aspirations led to increasing tensions between them, ultimately culminating in a heated argument and Gordie running away from home.
After joining Mustard's dojo, Gordie was dumbfounded when he came across online gossip linking his mother to Stephen.
"Your son ran away from home, and you still have time to chase after younger men?"
At that moment, Mustard's wife, Honey, emerged from the kitchen carrying a dish and called out:
"Dinner's ready! Come give me a hand~"
"Coming, Mistress Honey!"
Bea quickly stepped forward.
—
At the Dinner Table.
As everyone sat down for dinner, Iono, with a bit of sauce at the corner of her mouth, innocently asked Mustard:
"Master Mustard, are you married to Misstress Honey?"
Mustard wasn't offended by the question at all. Instead, he laughed proudly:
"Yes, we have a 30-year age gap—a twilight romance! When I retired as Galar Champion and began my travels, it was love at first sight…"
As Mustard passionately recounted their love story, Honey rolled her eyes, just about to say something when—
Suddenly, the sound of a crying baby echoed from the back of the dojo.
"Oh dear, Hyde is awake! I'll go change his diaper."
Honey quickly got up and rushed to the back.
Leon explained:
"Hyde is Master and Mistress's child—he's almost a year old now."
They even have a kid!?
Visitors from outside Galar—Karen, Iono, and Lorelei—looked increasingly bewildered.
They glanced at Mustard's face, full of wrinkles, with white eyebrows and a white beard.
Still going strong, huh…
—
During a casual conversation, Mustard told Stephen about the purpose of the Towers of Two Fists.
The towers, named "The Tower of Darkness" and "The Tower of Waters," were constructed to train his two Kubfu disciples back in the day.
Long ago, he led his two Kubfu disciples to train in these towers, enabling them to evolve successfully. However, the towers had been unused for a long time since then.
"It's these two right here~"
Mustard reached into his pocket and casually tossed out two Poké Balls.
Two massive, muscular black-furred Pokémon landed on the ground simultaneously.
Standing over two meters tall, their bodybuilder-like physiques and flowing headband-like fur tufts made them an imposing sight.
Urshifu!
"No matter how many times I see them, Master's Urshifu is so cool!"
"Absolutely majestic!"
"Such a shame Master is retired… I'd love to see him battle Champion Leon at his peak!"
The students around the table buzzed with excitement, eyes filled with admiration. Even Gordie, a Rock-type specialist, couldn't help but show a hint of awe—let alone Bea, a dedicated Fighting-type trainer.
—
The two Urshifu locked eyes with a figure in the corner of the dojo—a Pokémon feeding a flock of others, carefully scooping food with a spoon to feed both an Altaria and a Galarian Articuno.
Their gazes locked onto the bear-like Pokémon, sensing its overwhelming strength.
"Doon-Ah!"
The bear-like Pokémon, gripping Galarian Articuno by the throat with one hand while shoving food into its beak with the other, turned its eyes toward the two Urshifu.
A three-way standoff between bears!
"Calm down, calm down, calm down!"
"Bewear, they're not hostile!"
Leon and the others, who had witnessed the recent battle and knew how strong Mustard's Urshifu were, quickly stepped in to de-escalate the situation.
If these three started fighting here… the dojo would be completely obliterated. Maybe even half the island.
Bewear finally looked away and resumed feeding the injured Galarian Articuno, whose teary blue eyes behind its mask seemed to plead:
"Grandma, I really can't eat anymore…"
—
After finishing the conversation about his Urshifu, Mustard couldn't hold back his curiosity any longer.
"Little Stephen, about the moves Bewear used in its battle just now—could you tell this old man more about them?"
Back in the day, he had stepped down from his Galar Champion position to travel the world, all for the sake of witnessing different battle styles.
Yet he never expected that, even at this ripe old age, he would still get to see such an incredible fighting technique.
"Oh, right! Little Iono, didn't you record the battle earlier? Play it for everyone—let my students learn from it!"
If Mustard liked someone, he would give them a nickname with 'Little' in front of their name.
"Uh-oh~"
Upon hearing this, Iono took out her newly bought DV and connected it to the dojo's television.
Soon, the video started playing.
When they saw the scene of Bewear soaring through the air, using a punch to transfer its position through recoil, and moving as lightly as a feather to evade Galarian Articuno's Psychic attack—
The young disciples under Mustard all widened their eyes in shock.
Not just them—even experienced trainers like Lorelei and Leon, who had already seen it once before, were deeply astonished.
"What are these two moves?"
Mustard pointed at the paused video and asked.
Stephen explained, "This is called... the Six Forms of Combat, my newly developed ultimate techniques."
Stephen had originally intended to say "Marine Six Power," but then remembered that the Pokémon world had no marine, so he changed the name on the spot.
"These two moves are 'Moon Step' and 'Paper Art' from the Six Forms of Combat. The first allows the user to step on air using powerful leg strength to stay airborne, while the second involves fully relaxing the body to become as light as paper, enabling the user to evade attacks by following the airflow generated by the opponent's strikes."
"But Dr. Stephen, in the video, Bewear used its hands."
Bea raised her hand and asked.
Indeed, in the footage where Bewear dodged Galarian Articuno's first attack, it used its hands to generate an air burst, propelling itself.
Stephen explained, "As long as you can generate enough force to stay in the air, you can use any part of your body. It's just that, for most people… and Pokémon, the strongest body part is the legs, so most masters of Moon Step use their legs for greater power. But for my Bewear, that's not a concern—it can release immense strength from any part of its body."
"Six Forms? That means there are four more moves? Little Stephen, what are the remaining four like?"
Mustard asked curiously.
"To be honest, for Pokémon at the champion level, only Moon Step is truly practical. The other five are just redundant. I originally thought Bewear only needed to learn Moon Step, but its learning ability was too strong—it mastered all six moves at once, so there was nothing I could do."
Judging from how Six Power became almost obsolete in the later stages of One Piece, Stephen believed that these techniques were already outdated.
Take Paper Art and Iron Body, for example—why bother with them when you have Observation Haki for prediction and Armament Haki for defense?
The same logic applied to Pokémon.
The move Shave? It could be replaced by Quick Attack—or even better, Extreme Speed and Teleport, which were much faster.
Moves like Tempest Kick and Finger Pistol? No need—after all, why bother when Blaze Kick and Mega Punch were stronger?
There was simply no reason to train those techniques.
That's why Sanji only practiced Moon Step—because it helped him stay airborne.
As for Tempest Kick, it wasn't as powerful as his Diable Jambe.
The reason Bewear learned all six moves was simply because its learning ability was too monstrous.
Stephen had only casually explained the principles twice, and Bewear already grasped 80% of them.
And once Bewear mastered the three Haki types, even Paper Art could be discarded—it could directly foresee the future.
The entire dojo fell into silence.
What did he mean by, "Its learning ability was too strong, so there was nothing I could do"?
Was this some kind of humblebrag?
Even though Stephen dismissed five of the Six Forms as useless, Mustard, being the strongest Fighting-type trainer of this era, was still intrigued.
After dinner, at Mustard's enthusiastic invitation, Stephen brought Bewear to the dojo's backyard training ground to demonstrate all six forms of combat.
Leon, Bea, and the rest of the audience stood by to watch.
Aside from Moon Step and Paper Art, which had already been seen in the battle against Galarian Articuno, Stephen had Bewear showcase Shave, Iron Body, Tempest Kick, and Finger Pistol one by one.
"Wow! These are completely new fighting techniques!"
Bea's mouth formed a small "o" shape.
Mustard stroked his beard, deep in thought, before finally speaking:
"You're right, Little Stephen—Moon Step is the most practical of the six. But I believe Paper Art is still a highly useful move. Why do you consider it obsolete?"
After all, the ability to relax the body and move with the enemy's attack flow to dodge blows seemed even more effective than Detect.
To Mustard, its practicality was undeniable.
Yet Stephen still labeled it "useless," which puzzled Mustard.
"Because there are stronger techniques that can replace it. It's like how a Fire-type Pokémon that already knows Flamethrower does not need Ember, right?"
Stephen gave a straightforward explanation.
"What?! That's impossible!"
Nessa couldn't help but exclaim.
Even though she specialized in Water-types, she knew that Detect was an advanced Fighting-type technique capable of avoiding most attacks.
And Paper Art was even better than Detect!
Yet Stephen claimed to have an even stronger alternative.
How was that possible?
"Nessa, geniuses always defy common sense."
Chairman Rose, however, remained calm.
Stephen had already created countless things that defied logic.
Nessa opened her mouth slightly but was momentarily speechless.
Indeed, compared to monsters like Stephen and Leon…
She was just a normal person.
"Oh? Then earlier…"
Mustard's curiosity was piqued.
"Against an opponent like Galarian Articuno, there was no need for Bewear to use its full strength."
Stephen's words left everyone in the dojo dumbfounded.
They recalled Bewear's performance in the video.
That… wasn't its full strength?!
At the back, following behind Will, Galarian Articuno shivered slightly—one of its wings was still wrapped in heavy bandages.
Wait.
I'm already in this state… and you're telling me you didn't use full power?!
Leon stroked his chin, recalling the details of the battle.
Damn.
It did seem that way.
During the fight, Bewear's final Mega Punch didn't even land directly—it was a shockwave attack that shattered Galarian Articuno's Hurricane + Psychic combo.
If it had connected physically, who knows what would've happened?
If Leon had noticed this, then Mustard had as well.
"Could it be… that last punch from Bewear!?"
Mustard had felt something was off at the time.
Stephen nodded. After thinking for a moment, he added, "Explaining in words isn't enough. Let's demonstrate it instead."
"Who wants to give it a try?"
Stephen, as if conducting an on-site lesson, turned around and asked the crowd.
The crowd looked at each other in confusion. Iono and the fighting girl Bea, who were close to Stephen, were eager to give it a try.
Rose spoke up, "Nessa, you go."
Nessa was momentarily stunned but saw that Rose was already looking at her. "Go on."
Seeing Rose's actions, Goodshow inwardly scoffed.
That guy Rose doesn't give up.
Goodshow thought that next time he had the chance, he would let Lorelei go instead.
Under the gaze of her chairman, Nessa pursed her lips and stepped onto the field, somewhat nervously addressing Stephen, "Dr. Stephen, p-please guide me."
"It's nothing, just relax, Miss Nessa," Stephen reassured her. "Just send out any one of your Pokémon."
Nessa nodded and lightly tossed a red-and-white Poké Ball.
The Pokémon that appeared was a Drednaw from the Alola region.
It had to be said—this big turtle looked pretty cool.
"Master Mustard, what I am about to show you is called 'Haki.' It's not just limited to Fighting-types, nor even just to Pokémon. It is a latent power that all living beings possess, just like Aura," Stephen explained.
"It's just that most humans and Pokémon are unaware of this power, so they naturally never awaken it and go their whole lives without being able to use it," he continued while having Bewear turn around, facing away from Nessa's Drednaw.
"Now, Miss Nessa, have your Drednaw attack Bewear."
Nessa was startled, looking at the completely exposed back of Bewear. "But, but..."
Stephen gave her a reassuring look. "It's fine. Attack."
Rose also added, "Attack, Nessa. With your Pokémon's level, it's impossible to harm Dr. Stephen's Bewear in any way."
As soon as Rose said that, even Will, Iono, and Goodshow—all outsiders—looked at him in disbelief.
Wow, way to disrespect your own Gym Leader like that.
Hearing Rose's words, Nessa bit her lip and commanded, "Drednaw, use Liquidation!"
Drednaw extended its left claw, forming a water blade, and slashed at Bewear from behind.
Stephen continued explaining, "Haki has two main functions. One is the ability to sense the 'flow' of an opponent's aura. For example, right now, Bewear knows without looking that Drednaw is about to attack the right side of its head."
As soon as he finished speaking, Bewear slightly tilted its head to the left.
Drednaw's water blade brushed past Bewear's ear, making the onlookers' hearts pound.
Master Mustard's eyes narrowed slightly. "Ho~ I see. So this is an even stronger defensive method than Paper Art."
"Continue," Stephen gestured to Drednaw with a beckoning motion.
Taking the hint, Drednaw gripped its water blades with both hands and prepared to strike again in a decisive, swift manner.
"Bewear, demonstrate it..."
Before Stephen even finished speaking, Bewear casually raised its right hand and crushed Drednaw's water blade.
Drednaw, unable to stop its momentum, crashed directly into Bewear's fist.
Instantly, it fainted on the spot.
An awkward silence filled the scene.
Stephen blinked and looked at Bewear.
Bewear just shrugged innocently.
It wasn't my fault—it ran into my fist on its own.
And who knew it was this fragile? Has it already fainted?
"That was way too weak," even Will, who understood Bewear's terrifying strength, couldn't help but comment.
In her high-heeled shoes, Nessa's toes curled in embarrassment as if she could dig out an entire apartment with them.
This situation was like Goku, who could transform into a Super Saiyan, trying to playfully pat Chi-Chi, only to accidentally send her flying.
"Lorelei, you go!"
Goodshow quickly pushed his own Elite Four member forward while taking the opportunity to mock Rose. "Rose, my friend, your Gym Leader's strength could use some improvement."
Rose's face darkened like a cast-iron pan.
He had intended to use this opportunity to help Nessa get closer to Stephen.
He hadn't expected it to turn into such an embarrassing mess.
Although he had chosen Nessa as a Gym Leader mainly because of her looks, this was just too weak!
"Stephen, is this Pokemon okay?"
Lorelei released a new Pokémon.
It was a Beartic from the Unova region.
There sure were a lot of bears today.
Seeing Stephen nod, Lorelei lightly waved her right hand.
Beartic roared, raising its right arm in a chopping motion. A faint pink glow shimmered on its palm as it struck toward Bewear.
Stephen's eyes flashed with surprise.
Does it know "Play Rough"?
It was as if the previous scene was repeating itself.
Facing a move that was super effective against it, Bewear simply swung its right arm upward.
Bang!
A loud impact echoed, startling the surrounding wild Pokémon, nearly making them stumble.
Back in the dojo battle arena, the attacking Beartic was the one that ended up flipping over onto its back.
"J-just now… did Bewear's hand turn black?" Bea rubbed her eyes.
Stephen explained, "Unlike Observation Haki, Armament Haki is like an invisible armor for the body. This hardened armor can be used for defense, but naturally, it can also be used to enhance attacks."
"Ughh..."
Lorelei's Beartic groaned, rubbing its numbed arm as it got back on its feet.
Meanwhile, Stephen continued,
"Most people can only learn two types of Haki—Armament and Observation—but there is an extremely rare third type that only a few individuals can wield, and that is..."
At that moment, Bewear slowly turned its head, locking eyes with the recovering Beartic.
The instant their eyes met, Beartic's pupils dilated in shock.
The next moment, everyone present felt an overwhelming, domineering aura, as if a mountain was pressing down on them.
In that instant, Beartic's breathing halted.
Its black pupils rolled back, and just as it got up—it thumped back down again.
And it wasn't just Beartic that fell.
Iono, Nessa, Bea, Gordie, and all the disciples in Master Mustard's dojo—every rookie on the scene—collapsed to the ground, eyes rolling back, completely knocked out.
PS: Guys, I will not be enrolling this school year for 1st year college instead I will devote myself on translation hehe. Also I will replace my potato laptop with pc, I feel like the lagging problem slow down my updates.
