Selene Valor, a pureblood vampire,  entered a marriage of convenience with her husband Gabriel Valor to protect herself from relatives eyeing what was left of her family's wealth. "Or maybe he is doing it because he loves me more than his children, who are always arguing. Don't spoil the mood with the past. Take that up with him another time," Xavier said and then returned to listening to where Selene walked with Orlork.

Camilla sat down at the dinner table. "Well, look at you being a good husband to your wife. He's right, you know. If he wanted to harm her, he would have done it the moment he saw her, or he would have waited for when she was out alone to steal her. He likes her."

"I can hear your jealousy in your voice," said Xavier.
