After Dave finished speaking, he didn't hear Laurent respond and, feeling a bit anxious, he pressed,
"Why aren't you saying anything?"
You see, because he was worried she wouldn't pick up his call, he had deliberately used the hotel room phone, and even arranged for their daughter to speak with her first before handing the phone to him.
"There's nothing to say."
Laurent replied coldly, then added,
"Thanks for bringing our daughter over. Tell me the hotel name and room number, and I'll have her grandfather pick her up later."
Dave was so stunned by her words that he couldn't say anything for a long while.
It was bad enough that she said there was nothing to talk about and hurt him with that, and it was one thing for her to want to take their daughter and leave him behind, but now she even wanted her father to pick up their daughter?!
Was she really trying to avoid him completely?
