I was definitely joking when I said that.

I even told Sally we would never come to this place again.

Unfortunately, as it turned out, I would have to break that promise once more.

Illness had decided to pay me another visit.

The winter in South City was different from previous years. Usually this time of year brought mostly sleet, but this year we got heavy snow.

I overheard the doctors and nurses at the hospital chatting about how unusually cold it was this year, and how the weather was becoming increasingly unpredictable.

The New Year was approaching. I gazed out the window at the bare tree branches, not a hint of green in sight.

I pressed my face against the cold glass, breathing out a cloud of fog.

Sometimes, I saw him standing down below.

Completely motionless.

"Does he do that every day? Isn't he cold?" Sally asked flatly as she walked by with a cup of hot milk.

"Oh, really? I'm sure he's fine," I replied.

She hasn't been in a good mood lately.
