The cacophony outside grew louder.

Shouting. Metal striking metal. The rhythmic pounding of steel and the bark of orders, blending into a constant hum of tension.

Yet the gnawing sensation within her—this disconnection, this unsettled feeling—only worsened.

She couldn't rest.

She stood.

"Ad?"

Priscilla looked up at her, concern flickering across her features.

"I will be back."

"He gave us his command—to remain here!" Priscilla exclaimed, rising slightly.

Adeline shrugged. "Well, too bad then."

She stepped out, swatting aside the cloth covering the tent's entrance.

The noon sun hit her directly in the face. She squinted, her vision adjusting.
