As soon as Lucas pressed the button, the metallic sphere lifted from his palm, hovering in midair. A faint hum vibrated through the room as a swirling blue light expanded outward, spiraling into a vortex. The portal formed—a mesmerizing window to the cosmos, shifting and shimmering like a distant galaxy. Energy pulsed from it, sending a gust of wind that ruffled his clothes and made his heart pound.
Lucas' eyes widened in sheer excitement. "Holy shit…"
This was it. A real, honest-to-God portal.
His fingers clenched, adrenaline kicking in. This was insane, reckless, and quite possibly the dumbest thing he'd ever done.
But damn, did it look cool.
He took a deep breath, ready to step through—only for the door behind him to swing open with a loud BAM.
"What the hell is that?!"
Lucas stiffened.
Standing in the doorway, staring at the glowing vortex with a mix of shock and suspicion, was Lena—his step-sister.
Shit.
