"There's killing intent."
Years of gaming experience had endowed Yang Yu with a consciousness and reaction speed that far surpassed ordinary people. When the dart whizzed through the air with a piercing scream, he didn't hesitate to open his Shield and engage "Interception."
Regrettably, "Interception" did not completely fend off the attack. The dart brutally penetrated Yang Yu's defense, knocking out a quarter of his Blood Volume.
That was close—too close. If he hadn't caught it, he would have nearly lost two lives. It was a terrifying thought.
Peering toward the direction from which the attack came, Yang Yu focused his gaze. It was too far; he couldn't see who was attacking him.
Andro also sensed the anomaly and immediately ordered the adventure group to halt and be on guard.
Yang Yu was still jumping around actively, and the Elite Assassin Goblins' eyes widened, looking at each other in disbelief. It was known that countless goblin chieftains had perished simply from this tactic; they couldn't believe that the assassination had failed against a mere Human.
Was it strength, or purely luck? A weak aura lingered all over him... such a weakling couldn't possibly catch a Life-stealing Dart.
The Elite Assassin Goblins kept searching their minds for a convincing argument, until one of them came to a conclusion.
"That youth seems to have just gained a Skill, and it is one that can greatly reduce damage. When we threw the dart, he just happened to be fiddling with his new Skill, so, it was purely by chance that he managed to intercept our dart."
With this conclusion, the other Elite Assassin Goblins nodded in agreement.
The Elite Assassin Goblins were the cream of the crop, possessing high attack power and agility, and they never missed. The task of hunting down a small Human should have been free of complications.
The only explanation was that their target had extraordinarily good luck.
"Damn it. Who would have thought our perfect plan would be foiled by that kid's good fortune!"
"What should we do now? They're completely on guard. I think we shouldn't act rashly and wait for the main force to arrive."
"Agree."
"Agree."
"Disagree."
"Disagree."
The Elite Assassin Goblins stood on high trees, each holding to their own views; in situations of disagreement, they often made decisions in this manner.
This kind of decision-making was subject to subjective influence. At the same time as these goblins expressed their opinions, they could articulate their reasons. If the others found the arguments convincing, they might change their views until a consensus was reached.
"Disagree! Our Goblin Assassination Squad has never failed before. This failure is our disgrace; only the enemy's fresh blood can cleanse our dishonor, or our blood must do so."
Having said this, the goblins who had just agreed with the wait changed their stance. Nobody thought they should wait for the main force any longer.
These were the most noble warriors among the goblins; only the top fifty warriors in the tribe could receive the baptism from the Great One and become Elite Assassin Goblins. Such a status was an honor itself, and no one could tarnish their glory.
The opponents were merely remnants of a defeated army, and without the need for a main force, they could eliminate them all. Such was the pride of the Goblin Assassination Squad.
"Killing intent! Such a strong killing intent!" Andro's pectoral muscles quivered, and the somber atmosphere caused a shudder down his chest muscles.
The trees rustled around them, agitated like a restless young woman, as sinister shadows flitted through the leaves. A few scouts in the trees attempted to get a clearer look, but suddenly, a dart from seemingly nowhere struck one squarely in the face, causing them to stagger before tumbling from the trees, instantly lifeless.
The quicker scouts leapt away from the trunks and regrouped with the rest of the team, all on high alert.
A sense of imminent danger filled the air, as if ready to ignite at the slightest provocation.
In an instant, handfuls of darts flew from the treetops, and the front-line warriors crouched low, summoning all their skills to defend themselves. Seizing the opportunity, Elite Assassin Goblins leapt down from the canopy, thrusting their sharp daggers into the adventurers' flesh.
Cries of anguish rose as several adventurers fell to the ground, their blood gushing relentlessly.
Then, at the same time, all the Elite Assassin Goblins turned their attention to Yang Yu—the man whose luck had utterly disrupted their plans.
They swore to tear him and his team to shreds, to become nourishment for the resurgence of the ancient empire.
"Why is everyone looking at me?" Yang Yu tilted his head, confused by the sudden turn of events. I just blocked a dart, and that drew their hatred?
Yang Yu glanced at the goblins' attribute values and was taken aback.
Elite Assassin Goblins, Level 23, with attack power over 300 and speed exceeding 100. However, their other attributes were disastrously low, with a mere Blood Volume of 150—Yang Yu could kill one with just a few slashes.
Most goblins were geared towards endurance. Encountering such extreme goblins, with their points redistributed entirely into attack and speed, was unheard of—as if someone had reset them and re-allocated all their points.
It was a tough situation. Creatures with high speed and attack were difficult to handle. Without any Control Skills at the moment, and even with fancy footwork, facing eight high-speed goblins could easily leave one defenseless and ripe for the slaughter.
However, Yang Yu's worries were unnecessary.
Only one of the Elite Assassin Goblins stayed behind to fight Yang Yu, while the other seven tangled with the other members of the adventure group.
Oh? Are they underestimating me? That's just perfect, but don't regret it later.
A smile appeared on Yang Yu's face.
If these goblins had stayed hidden and kept throwing darts, he might indeed have been out of options. But the enemy foolishly came out into the open to confront him in close combat, and the thought alone made Yang Yu want to laugh out loud.
In truth, Yang Yu had never feared a one-on-one fight with high-attack, low-defense melee creatures. He often killed them off before they could find the right combat technique.
The goblin charged fiercely, yet there was not a trace of fear on Yang Yu's face.
Perhaps in the past, his reactions couldn't keep up with his mind, and he couldn't even dodge Slime attacks. But now, having boosted his agility by a considerable amount, there was no reason he couldn't dodge the goblin's attacks.
The goblins could only hope for a chance at victory by using their speed to zigzag and create openings.
But remember, that was only a chance at victory.
With Yang Yu's current Endurance, taking a hit from a goblin was no issue. When his Blood Volume dipped to a critical line, a "Sudden Killing Intent" would emerge, allowing him to forcibly level the playing field in terms of speed and seize control again.
The battle's outcome was decided the moment the goblins sent out just one Elite Goblin. Yang Yu brandished his Shield, executing a "Shield Block" to withstand the goblin's ordinary Attack. He counterattacked with two slashes aimed at the goblin's chest.
The goblin's reactions were lightning-fast, dodging one slash while taking the other in the arm, avoiding a fatal blow. Licking the wound on its arm, it roared angrily and charged at him with a dagger in phase.
This time, Yang Yu took the hit without dodging, his eyes erupting with a red glow as he swiftly wielded his sword, piercing through the goblin's chest.
