chapter 77

Eileen often dreamed about Cesare. Since he was the person she thought about most frequently, it was only natural that he appeared in her dreams quite regularly.

These dreams were usually vivid and serene, featuring peaceful moments like strolling through the palace gardens or having tea with Cesare.

However, when he was away at war, nightmares became more frequent. These dreams were often filled with ominous news or showed Cesare's retreating figure, despite her desperate attempts to call him back. Upon waking, her pillowcase would be soaked with tears.

It was distressing but inevitable. Given her constant thoughts of Cesare, dreaming about him was to be expected.

Yet the notion of Cesare dreaming about her was unfamiliar—especially a dream of living together in a brick house, a vision of married life Eileen had always longed for.
