Like, actually. Right here. Right now. This was where my life ended.
I swallowed hard, staring down the monstrosity of a ski slope beneath me. The drop was insane. The angle looked like something straight out of a horror movie.
No normal human being—or demon, or dragon, or anything with a functioning brain—would willingly throw themselves down this death trap.
"Nope," I said immediately, turning around. "I refuse."
"Oh, come on," Rowena grinned beside me, clearly thriving in my suffering. "It's not that bad."
"We are on top of a fucking mountain, Rowena!" I snapped. "Alicia was smart and left. Why the hell didn't I go with her?!"
"Because you're an idiot," Rowena said, way too cheerfully.
"No argument there," Maeve muttered.
I turned to Maeve. "Why the hell are you even here?!"
She sighed, rubbing her temples. "Because if I win this stupid race, I get a raise."
I blinked. "That's it?!"
