The moment Maeve finally stopped laughing at my very unfortunate invisibility mishap, I shot her the best glare I could muster. Which, judging by the smug grin still on her face, wasn't nearly as threatening as I wanted it to be.
"Alright, alright," she said, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. "Let's get moving before I start crying from laughing too hard."
"Yeah, laugh it up," I muttered. "I'd like to see you turn invisible."
"I don't need to," she said, standing up and stretching. "I have other talents."
That was the understatement of the year.
With her magic back, Maeve had already shown off some of her raw power earlier, casually lighting the fire like it was nothing. But now, as we stepped out of the cave and into the eerie stillness of the forest, I realized I still had no idea just how strong she actually was.
