I missed you

I stared at Riley, my brain still trying to process the absolute insanity of what she had just told me.

Mom had killed her ex.

Mom had thrown her in prison.

And then somehow—they ended up married and in love?

What kind of messed-up romance was that?!

Riley just sipped her tea like she hadn't just shattered my entire worldview. I opened my mouth, closed it, then opened it again. Words failed me.

Finally, I managed, "What the hell?!"

Riley arched an eyebrow, completely unfazed by my outburst. "What? I thought you liked dramatic stories."

"This isn't just a story, this is your life!" I exclaimed, throwing up my hands. "You hated Mom! She locked you up! She killed your ex!"

Riley shrugged like it was the most casual thing in the world. "Yeah, well, at least you didn't try to kill Maeve."

I nearly choked on my hot chocolate. "MOM!"

She smirked, clearly enjoying my distress far too much.
