Chapter 3

So far, Thomas has been the only creature, who has been able to bring me out of balance even by his mere silence. But, the appearance of this cunning lady, who is a native devil, causes me fits of uncontrollable malice.

Let her just touch Victor, and I swear I'll quarter her with a hacksaw to see if her body parts will come together.

- Jennie, can you stop looking at me with such hateful eyes? You are the only person here who does not respect me. Didn't the household members explain to you how you should behave towards me? - Irene puts her foot on her leg, looking arrogant, which drives me even more crazy.

I would rather not bring trouble to my friends, yet without their help I am able to fight her, although I know that no human stands a chance against a demon. I'm half-dead, so it hangs over me, even if it decides to rip my head off.

I fought such devious bitches in school and college, so I won't let up now either. I'll send her straight to the hell she came from.

- I don't care what rank you have in hell. We are on earth, I am human, so at any time I can sprinkle salt on you and send you straight to the devil.

I haven't had this much fun in a long time.

- I'll turn a blind eye to your childish behavior, stop as long as I'm patient," she speaks to me warning, trying to scare me.

Lisa stares at me intensely, begging me to stop. The demons must be afraid of Irene, since even my disheveled friend is terrified by the words of this infernal lady.

- Jennie is not in the mood today. She is soul-connected behind me, so I can sense her mood. If you don't feel like being in the same room with her, I will find a solution. - Andy looks grave when he says these words. I'm afraid he will ask me out of the room if I can't behave politely around a guest in his house. - You can leave. I can see that my roommates are devoid of livelier reactions in your company, and I like them to just be themselves.

I open my mouth in shock, not expecting this from my Guardian Angel.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love him? For giving me a second life, a beautiful roof over my head and embracing me with caring wings?

- You've made me embarrassed," Irene replies in a nervous voice, grunting.

- Don't forget that you are a guest in my house. I do not wish you to threaten my child.

Child? Child? CHILD?!

I look at him from under my furrowed brows, wondering what went through his head. Since when does he call me his child? Does he think that if he is my Guardian Angel, I should treat him like a father? What else... let it turn out that Lisa will become my stepmother, and we'll make a pretty funny series about our adventures.

Alcohol has gnawed his brain. I have no doubt about that.

Thomas laughs under his breath, covering half his face with his hand. I think at this point he is amused by the look on my face.

- Don't call Jennie your child, it's weird," mutters Lisa under her breath.

- I've been protecting her since she was born, so she's like a child to me.

Irene raises an eyebrow, still looking arrogant.

- If I knew I wasn't welcome here, I wouldn't have accepted Thomas' invitation.

If I could kill with my eyes, this idiotic demon would already be dead.

What on earth did he invite Irene for?

He finds my gaze and, literally like a child, shows me his tongue. What is the meaning of this? How old is he? If he were still alive, now, he would probably be going through a midlife crisis and supporting his sister through menopause.

- I do not conclude that you are not welcome here. I'm just asking you to be careful with your words.

I was hoping Andy would kick her out of the house to a screeching halt, but he decided to be a good Angel again.

They are all haunted. From second to second, their mood changes.

- Should we have a drink to lighten the atmosphere?

I don't know what Thomas is planning and why he invited that awful babe, but he's like a big kid and no one can predict his intentions.

- I like the idea. - Andy lifts his thumb, looking delighted. Well, yes. It would be strange if a drunk wouldn't be happy to hear about an alcoholic libation. - Jennie, respect our guest.

Is he drunk? A moment ago he stood up for me, and now he tells me to respect this arrogant monkey?

- Doesn't infernal alcohol taste better? - Irene turns directly to Angel, who confirms with a nod that he would love to drink something much stronger. - Garm, jump to hell and bring us a case of pure gastric.

I open my eyes wide as the "Shiba Inu" breed dog, transforms into a naked boy with a curled tail. I don't even hide the fact that I can't take my eyes off his penis.

- Hi, handsome boy. - He throws up his red hair with bangs, passionately looking at my Guardian Angel. - Now that I can be a human being for a while, I just want to tell you that biting you is an expression of my affection for you.

- I doubted that dogs were coming at me, too. - Andy looks embarrassed.

- Racial dogs," the redhead corrects him.

- I'll never look at Garm as an animal again - I mutter under my breath and shift my gaze to Victor, feeling how frigidly he measures me with his eyes. - And what's your problem?

And he just ignores me. Although he would answer, but no, why not? Better to hold a grudge and not explain to the man what he did wrong.

I open my eyes wide and glance anxiously at my roommates, when at first I feel a tremor under my feet, and a moment later the whole house shakes. Despite this, nothing falls off the shelves.

Magic?

Am I the only one panicking? They sit quietly, as if nothing is happening. Thomas is even sipping a cherry coca - cola.

- Is it an earthquake? - I ask in a nervous voice.

The demon puts the glass bottle down on the table.

- A meteorite flies at us.

- What - I probably look like an idiot now, looking at him with dull eyes. - What are you talking about?

- Remember the article from three years ago? It is this meteorite that flies to earth with quite a delay.

Among them, I am the only one who is terrified. They don't give a damn. Well, yes. After all, they're not human, so they won't die.

- How close is this meteorite if the whole house is shaking?

- In a moment it will fall on us.

- On us! - I howl, still not believing that they are sitting relaxed, waiting for alcohol.

- Stop panicking, Jennie. This is no ordinary meteorite. We've been waiting for it for three years.

It has fallen on their heads. All of them.

- So what about the promise to protect me with your body, since you are as hard as a rock? - I turn to Thomas, for which he gets a kick in the tibia from Victor. - That hurt, you idiot!

- Stop asking him, I'll protect you," he replies, puffed up like a child.

Thomas smiles sourly.

- I was the first, I promised her, so I will be the one to embrace her with my wings.

Are they playing a prank at this point? Are they making fun of me?

Irene looks at me disdainfully, looking as if she is jealous. Apparently, she likes to be the center of attention, adored by all the guys, so it hits her that she's being put off at this point.

The earthquake is getting stronger and stronger, and these stupid creatures are still sitting quietly, waiting for the infernal alcohol.

I stare at Thomas, hoping he'll get up and get ready to protect me, but he's sipping a cherry Coke, smiling under his breath.

I'm about to cry.

Something hits the roof with unimaginable force, and with tears in my eyes, I watch as Lisa watches her long, pointy fingernails. Andy scratches his head and listens to what Irene says to him. Thomas savors the taste of the drink, and Victor sits with his arms crossed over his chest, out of the corner of his eye, glancing at me with an offended look.

I lift my face as I feel the plaster fly over my head. As if in slow motion, I watch the crystal chandelier fall directly on top of me.

My whole body goes numb. I can't move from the couch, guessing that I will die shortly, since even my Guardian Angel is not going to protect me.

Is this an illusion? Why do they act as if everything is fine?

Moments later I am like the heroine of a romantic movie in which two, handsome guys, appear by my side, wanting to protect me with their bodies. One of them is quicker and with his arm embraces me at the waist, while his black wings wrap around my figure, making sure that no piece of the crumbling roof, will injure me.

Supported by his strong hand, I press my palms against his chest, with my eyes closed, trembling.

- I may be a jerk, but I always keep my promises, Jennie.

I lift my eyelids, feeling a strong gust of wind. His black wings disappear, and I crouch on the grass, my face snuggled into his chest.

Breathing hard, I look over my shoulder, with horror in my eyes, looking at the rubble of the house, of which nothing more remains.

Unable to let go of Thomas, I clutch his black T-shirt in my fists, thankful that he's not a finished asshole.

From among the ruins, Lisa comes out first, shaking off the dust. Right behind her comes out Andy and Irene. Last is Victor, who nervously throws away a large piece of rubble, looking in our direction with anger in his eyes.

The main thing is that no one was hurt.

- Damn, Garm didn't have time with the alcohol, and I wanted to watch the house falling apart with a bottle in my mouth! - Andy is shaking his hair off the plaster, and I can't believe it was all planned, and they didn't even deign to warn me!

So that's why Thomas invited Irene? She wanted to be in the middle of a collapsing house? Was she looking for excitement?

- Finally, we will move out of here. The new house by the ocean, I like better. - Lisa stretches out on the stone, looking happy.

I burst out crying as cute little cupids, wearing only pampers, come out of the still burning meteorite.

- I hate you guys! - I shout, beating Thomas, who is next to me. - You are terrible," I repeat more quietly, wiping tears from my cheeks.

- Ah, Jennie, this is the first time you are so sweet," he replies in an amused voice.

The toddlers are running carefree in the garden, and I want to cry even more when I hear Andy's statement. He says that from now on, they will live with us in a new house, and we will have a chance to prove ourselves as parents.

- I'd already rather die than live with my children under one roof....

Garm appears with a grating of vodka, takes the form of a dog and plays with the cupids, barking happily.

Everyone is cheerful, only I still can't shake the tragedy.

Lisa runs up to me and, as a consolation, hugs me tightly.

- Don't cry, Jennie. I know you lost all your clothes, but we couldn't bring old things to the new house. Fashion changes every day. - Does she really think I'm crying because of clothes? - Later that night, I'll rob the whole mall for you. I swear.

Demon promises, from now on, seem especially stressful to me.
