I never thought I'd find myself tracking Aunt Marlene out to some desolate hideout in the middle of nowhere. Yet there I was, stepping cautiously into the crumbling building as dusk bled into the night. "Marlene," I called softly, half-hoping she'd answer like an old friend. Instead, the echo of my voice bounced off battered walls, and I knew this wouldn't be a simple reunion.

"Skylar," came a low, almost mocking reply from the shadows. I froze for a heartbeat. "I'm here because I need answers," I said, trying to keep my voice even despite the storm raging inside me.
