Chapter 79: The Game

A heavy silence settled in the room after Alessandro's words.

I remained seated near the fireplace, my fingers interlaced on my knees, trying to decipher the reactions around me. Some men exchanged furtive glances, others tensed slightly, but no one spoke immediately.

Alessandro, on the other hand, stood tall, imposing and impassive, his eyes scanning every face in the room as if weighing each person's loyalty.

Matteo, standing back, observed in silence. His role wasn't to speak, but to analyze, to catch the slightest hint of weakness or hesitation.

Then, a movement caught my attention.

Across the room, a man I had never seen before was staring at me.

He was lounging casually in an armchair, a glass of whiskey in hand, his expression unreadable. But his gaze was too direct, too piercing. There was neither curiosity nor defiance. Just a calm, almost arrogant confidence.
