Chapter 95 : Mending What’s Broken

The silence between us was so thick it felt almost tangible. There was too much to say, too many conflicting emotions clashing violently between us. But Alessandro remained there, frozen, unable to utter a single word. And I was at my limit.

I wanted an answer. A real one. Not an evasive glance, not an order disguised as protection.

"You're not saying anything?" I asked, my voice vibrating with frustration.

He took a deep breath, running a hand over his jaw, before finally meeting my gaze.

"Do you think I didn't suffer, Arianna?" His tone was low, charged with contained tension. "Do you think it was easy for me to keep you at a distance? That it didn't kill me every damn day not to be able to call you, not to be able to tell you that…"

He stopped abruptly, his jaw tightening even more.

"That what?" I whispered.

He looked away.

"That I was scared."

An icy shiver ran down my spine.

Scared?
