Third Person POV
Kaedwen.
...
...
"You know... we could just go around using your speed."
Ciri commented while they were in a village at that moment, as Madara had managed to meet a farmer who had some horses for sale.
Madara had obviously used his Sharingan to disguise himself and Ciri through an illusion, making it appear to the farmer that they were a middle-aged couple buying horses.
They were at the entrance of the barn when Ciri murmured to Madara about the matter of transportation.
Madara looked at her.
"We're doing this because Geralt doesn't like it. We could go ahead, but I doubt it would be good to leave him behind, I've already sent a clone into the forest to make sure he finds us."
He explained as she nodded, understanding his reasoning.
"You're lucky I have about 5 good horses with me, I can give you 3 of them."
The older man came out of the barn leading 5 horses, asking them to choose which ones they'd take.
Madara quickly chose 3 of them, easily seeing which were the best, while the farmer sold them the saddles and all the other accessories.
After that, he paid the man the price he asked and left the farm with Ciri riding 2 of the 3 horses.
As they headed to find a place to stay, Ciri looked toward the nearby village, with smoke coming from the chimneys at least a kilometer away from that farm.
"Can't we go there? We'll have some time before Geralt gets here, right?"
She murmured, while Madara shook his head.
"Unfortunately, it's not safe for us, since he should arrive in a day or two," Madara explained.
"That sounds like quite a while... it'll be tedious," she murmured, wanting to do something other than wait.
"You want to do a monster hunting quest? There's a notice board in the village with some missions for witchers or hunters," he commented, while she quickly raised an eyebrow.
"That sounds cool! Shall we do it?" she asked, while he nodded, stopping somewhere with the horses.
He entered the village unnoticed, moving across the rooftops to the center of the place. He jumped down to the notice board, appearing as a blur, grabbed the papers from the board, and disappeared in an instant without anyone noticing, while people walked through the village center.
He returned to Ciri shortly after, pulling out a paper and handing it to her.
"Since you want to do something, this would be good for you to train. I know you're still cautious about the power you were born with, but this will help you get used to your powers again through simple tasks," Madara said.
Ciri took the paper with a slightly cautious look, recognizing that Madara's words were true. But she nodded, knowing she had to be strong.
She looked at the paper in her hands. A monster was horribly drawn, like a police sketch—those people clearly weren't good artists—but the description made it easy for them to know what the creature was, which would be quite simple for her — she'd already been monster hunting in Kaer Morhen.
"A Banshee... this seems interesting," Ciri commented, reading the papers.
The monster was hiding in a nearby forested area. So Madara created a house and a barn with the wood release jutsu, to keep the horses inside and prevent them from escaping near the area.
After that, they headed to the area where, according to the papers, the monster had been seen killing a man in a hunting group.
Ciri was alert as she entered the place, leading the way, while Madara followed to keep her safe. If anything happened, he would be right there by her side.
It took a while for them to find the nesting site in the area. A large space infested with mist covering everything, and there was a stench in the air. A creature was walking with the sound of water beneath its feet among already decomposing animal corpses. There was also a dead man there, with half his body eaten.
The village notice stated that this man was taken by the creature as soon as his group heard strange noises from the cave, which had once been the lair of a monster some time ago.
The place had been uninhabited since a witcher passing through the region took care of the previous monster, but it had been found by this new Banshee a few weeks ago. The village became aware of her as soon as the first death occurred, and no one in the village had the courage to approach since then, as not even a group of five men could do anything, while the Banshee dragged the man into the cave.
Ciri analyzed the area, her eyes glowing faintly green. Madara behind her said nothing, just watched.
"She seems to be a young monster..." Ciri murmured.
"You seem to hesitate. Don't stop trusting your powers, Ciri. Just don't let them be unleashed at a point you're not ready to control them yet, but remember you can still handle them very well."
Madara gave her some advice.
Ciri nodded, gripping her sword. The creature seemed to be organizing the area, arranging the bodies and tossing them to the side, maybe trying to clean the ground and make it her new bed or something like that.
Ciri stood firm, watching the creature until she found the exact moment. She simply vanished with a green flash, reappearing behind the creature. Her sword was already in hand and quickly pierced the Banshee's body before she could react, making her scream in pain and surprise.
"AHH!"
Before she could strike Ciri with her claws, Ciri vanished again like a lightning bolt and reappeared at a safe distance, facing her enemy.
The creature was wounded, bleeding, and growling with rage, exposing her horrible face to the human who had attacked her.
She immediately began to move silently, disappearing, becoming just a blur, as the mist took over the whole place, while Ciri remained alert, seeing her nearly invisible form slightly distort the space as it advanced.
Ciri vanished again as the creature tried to grab her and appeared on the other side. With a roar of anger, the creature saw the human escape her once again.
At the same time, she grabbed some mud from the ground and threw it at Ciri on the other side, trying to hit her, while the girl quickly vanished from there with another teleport, reappearing somewhere hidden, as the creature searched for her, walking through the cave with growls.
The wound was still bleeding, leaving a trail. That made it easy for Ciri to detect the location while she remained hidden with invisibility. Watching from behind one of the rocks, she quickly vanished and reappeared where the creature was—cutting off one of its arms.
The Banshee roared in pain and tried to react, but Ciri vanished and reappeared behind her, thrusting the sword through her back and piercing her heart, with an inhuman scream echoing throughout the cave.
Ciri disappeared once more and reappeared in a flash, slashing the creature's neck, though not with enough force to sever the head. Still, it was enough to make her collapse in the next moment.
Ciri looked at the body, finding it easy and feeling satisfied with it, when her gaze turned to the ceiling of the cave, where Madara stood upside down, watching the entire fight.
"You acted well," he said, jumping from his spot and landing beside her in the water, not letting himself sink into the shallow water by using chakra, unlike Ciri's feet.
"Well... I guess this helped me a bit," Ciri murmured in reference to trusting the Elder Blood again, before disappearing and reappearing at the entrance of the place where they had started.
"Let's go, Madara," she said, a small smile forming.
Madara clicked his tongue but was also satisfied. He looked at the fallen creature, ripped off its head, and after that, jumped to the entrance, exiting shortly after.
"Don't forget the proof," Madara said, holding the creature's head in his hand, as it reeked.
"You're not actually going to claim their reward, are you?" Ciri asked, since they hadn't killed the creature for money, but for training.
"Obviously not. However, it's good to bring proof that the creature is dead to the village. That'll prevent them from hiring someone else to check the body later and claim they were the one who killed it after finding the creature already dead," he said, and she nodded.
Geralt finally left the forest after three days, while Madara's clone had found him the same day they exited the woods, informing him that everything had already been taken care of.
The first thing he saw was Madara and Ciri already mounted as he emerged from the forest, each on their new horses, while a third horse stood with an empty saddle.
"Now we can continue the journey," Madara murmured.
"You took too long," Ciri said.
"Sorry I can't just teleport around or leap through trees," he grumbled, mounting the horse, as the clone that had accompanied him vanished.
"Anyway, after what happened further east, it's best not to try the main road through the mountains. We'll have to pass through one of the dwarven mountains now," Madara said.
Initially, they had planned to avoid that, but now it would be better to follow a path with fewer humans and spies from all the realms.
"So you've been waiting here all this time?" Geralt asked as he began to walk, and the two accompanied him.
"You've got to be joking," Ciri said with arrogance, pulling out a stack of papers bound with an elastic band and tossing them to Geralt, who caught them, seeing a list of posters with 'X' marks.
"I hunted all those monsters myself, as you can see," Ciri said in her usual arrogant tone, while Geralt removed the elastic band and began to look through them.
Banshee, ghouls, drowners, nekkers, werewolves — all kinds of basic creatures were there, marked with an "X", as he raised an eyebrow at Ciri.
"You did all this alone?" he murmured, glancing at Madara, immediately expecting it from him — but from Ciri?
"I gave her a few tips, but she learned more in Kaer Morhen than you all gave her credit for," Madara said, while Geralt raised another eyebrow.
Ciri was known for skipping theoretical lessons in favor of physical training, but she wasn't foolish, and she certainly paid attention to everything, even if she pretended otherwise. She had always been absorbing that knowledge.
"You should've seen how stunned the village was. At least four times a day, for the last two days, monster heads kept dropping into the village square. The villagers started praying like some kind of god was cleansing all the monsters near the town."
Ciri laughed at the memory.
"Let's hope that doesn't cause any problems," Madara said before moving on.
They continued along trails through the forest, forging their own paths, avoiding anything that could detect them from now on. No one knew exactly what had happened in the destroyed forest, and it had alerted the major powers of the kingdom and the continent. Everyone was looking for clues about who could have done such a thing, and they now had to remain deeply hidden.
And in that very place...
Yennefer stepped out of a portal conjured by another sorceress at that moment, arriving from the devastated area. When she emerged, she was faced with an entire forest laid to waste, with no signs of life remaining.
The trees that still stood were nothing but blackened trunks, ready to snap at any moment, while the leaves and animals had either vanished or left only traces behind.
Every open area, for at least five kilometers, was no longer a forest — only destruction.
Ahead of her, camps had been set up, with mages, sorcerers, scholars, druids, spies from other kingdoms, soldiers, and knights from the Kingdom of Kaedwen all gathered there, searching for answers about what had occurred.
The king was likely extremely anxious, biting his nails, suspecting Madara was behind it. Perhaps it had been a warning to stay silent. And that very thought alone was enough to steal sleep... The idea that he could destroy the entire capital was terrifying.
Either way, Yennefer was there, watching everything around her, while the name "Ciri" formed silently on her lips without making a sound.
She never imagined that girl could be powerful — and at the same time, she moved forward toward the group of fellow Aretuza mages, eager to understand what had been discovered — and whether Geralt, Madara, and Ciri were safe.
