EMILY'S POV

I stepped out of the car , into the cool morning, the warmth of Ronald's presence gradually wearing away, leaving me vulnerable and exposed. The words he spoke to me the previous night had reduced my fear , his hand soothing my body had made me calm.

I walked into the office building, my feet heavy with a sense of dread. I entered the elevator as the people inside greeted me,my mind drifted elsewhere. I suddenly felt dizzy and held the metal rod for steadiness.l

The faces around me blurred together, their voices distant from him. I felt myself swaying , my vision narrowing to a tiny pinprick of light. And then, everything went dark.

A strong , firm fingers wrapped around my elbow, catching me before I could hit the floor. I jolted in surprise , followed by a wave of relief.

“Are you okay, Ma'am?" A familiar deep voice asked, cutting through the fog in my mind.
