Chapter 084: Memories

Two more days passed, and Lina Riley decided it was time to leave. Blanche Quinn still followed along with them. They traveled in stops and starts, taking brief rests on the road.

Night fell, and Beatrice Byrd gathered firewood and set it near the campfire. Wiping the sweat from her brow, she exhaled sharply, then blocked Ivy Dawson, who was about to play with the flames.

Settling beside the fire, Beatrice tossed some dried branches into it. The bright flames illuminated Lina Riley's face. Seeing Beatrice appear rather pleased, Lina couldn't help asking, "What's making you so happy?"

Beatrice laughed lightly. "If you're all happy, then I'm happy."

Something about that felt familiar to Lina. Though she had experienced little familial love herself, she had seen other families where elders often said: "If you're happy, I'm happy."
