Chapter 116: Liveliness

Snow began to fall again. Lina Riley recalled how, when she first regained consciousness in this lifetime, it was during just such a heavy snow. She had stood amidst the flurries, believing she should thank the heavens for allowing her a fresh start. But now she realized the ones she truly owed thanks to were Lucille Everard and Beatrice Byrd.

At the gates of the Riley estate, the imposing stone lions still stood guard. Snow crowned the lions' heads, and someone was already sweeping it away.

Seeing Lina at the entrance, two pageboys promptly stopped their work and bowed respectfully. "Second Miss."

Lina inclined her head in acknowledgment, but remained outside, extending a palm to catch the drifting flakes. The snow melted against her skin, her mood entirely different from a year ago—no bitterness, no anguish, just a delightful sense of ease.

"Miss."
