Chapter Three - Katherine's Story

In The Vampire Diaries, Katherine appears for the first time at the end of Season 1 and is a 545-year-old vampire.

She was born on June 5, 1473, in Bulgaria. Her father, Oleg Petrova, was a witch/traveler—a member of an ancient community skilled in spirit possession, dating back over 2,000 years to Ancient Greece. However, this community was cursed by witches, leading to a significant loss of their power. The curse was designed to divide them, make them forget their collective strength, and ultimately lead to their extermination.

Her mother, Sia Petrova, was Oleg's first cousin and a powerless human. Finally, there was Natalia Petrova, Katherine's younger sister. Both Petrova daughters were also travelers, though they didn't practice their abilities because Oleg forbade them to.

At the age of 17, Katherine was banished from her homeland after giving birth to a child (a daughter) out of wedlock. The baby was taken from her by her father mere minutes after she gave birth, leaving her no chance to hold her child in her arms.

Following this traumatic event, Katherine fled to England, where she encountered the Original family, the world's first vampires. She was initially attracted to both Klaus and Elijah Mikaelson before discovering that she was a Petrova doppelgänger.

A Petrova doppelgänger is a Petrova descendant who bears a striking resemblance to Amara. Amara was the origin of the Petrova doppelgänger line. Two thousand years ago, during the Roman Empire, Amara served as the handmaid of the witch/traveler Qetsiyah. Amara was in love with Silas, Qetsiyah's betrothed, who was also a witch/traveler. Amara and Silas drank an elixir of immortality together, ensuring they would remain together forever. Upon becoming the first immortal being, nature created a mortal doppelgänger of Amara to restore balance.

Katherine discovered that Klaus intended to sacrifice her to break his curse. Klaus, being a hybrid, aimed to unleash his werewolf side and create his race of vampire-werewolf hybrids. However, Katherine sabotages his plans by stealing the Moonstone and then taking her own life with vampire blood in her system, thus transforming herself into a vampire. Because her blood was no longer human, it could no longer be used in the ritual. Klaus was so enraged that he pursued her for 500 years, killing her Petrova relatives before she could save them.

In 1864, after 372 years of fleeing across the world, Katherine met Damon and Stefan Salvatore in Mystic Falls—the two main male characters of The Vampire Diaries—when they were still human. She made it her mission to seduce both of them simultaneously. She used her compulsion powers on Stefan, while Damon fell madly in love with her of his own free will.

When the townsfolk discovered the presence of vampires in Mystic Falls, Katherine decided to flee. She abandoned her two lovers after turning them into vampires, making them believe she had died.

Throughout the series, Katherine Pierce is portrayed as manipulative, hateful, vengeful, cruel, capricious, prideful, and seductive. She has no hesitation in betraying her allies when she feels endangered. Over the seasons, she turns and kills several characters.

In short, Katherine is the queen of villains and the character everyone dreams of seeing suffer and die as painfully as possible.

At the end of Season 4 and the start of Season 5, the story's heroine, Elena, forces the cure for vampirism down Katherine's throat, turning her back into a human. However, Katherine begins aging rapidly and cannot become a vampire again. Time catches up with her, and, following advice from her reunited daughter, Nadia, she uses her traveler powers to possess Elena's body. Unfortunately, Nadia is killed by a werewolf bite, and Katherine is exposed.

Ultimately, Stefan stabs Katherine with the traveler's knife, killing her permanently. She is sent directly to Hell, where, as expected, she finds no peace.

So, this is who I've reincarnated as! What great luck! Seriously, couldn't I have reincarnated as someone else?! Anyone! But not the one who probably suffered the most in her life like Amara Petrova!

If I ended my miserable life, it wasn't to have it worse!

Seriously, I'm going to have to spend 500 years playing hide and seek with a furious Original vampire to save my skin, be suspicious of everything that moves to avoid getting stabbed in the back, watch my family get decimated by the same furious Original vampire who wants me dead, and finally, watch the heroine, who is my descendant and a Petrova double, succeed in everything I couldn't over 500 years...

Seriously, what am I supposed to do?

Should I try to kill myself again? Well, after the last time, I think I'll avoid trying it again. I don't want things to get worse...

Let Klaus use me for his curse? I'm not exactly thrilled to end up as his snack, let's be honest. Even if I survive like Elena, I don't want to end up as a blood bag for him to create his army of hybrids...

Become a vampire before meeting Klaus? Given his shitty personality, he'll probably kill me before I have time to do anything.

Not give birth to Nadia? The problem is, I don't even know who the father is, so how am I supposed to avoid him? And I have to admit, Nadia is such a touching character, so knowing she's my daughter makes me proud...

Not going to England? The problem is that there are vampires and witches all over the world who know about the existence of the Petrova doubles, and to get in Klaus's good graces, they'll probably lead me straight to him anyway...

Learn to become a traveler? That could work, but the problem is Oleg doesn't want Katherine to become a traveler, so he's not going to teach me...

I'm screwed...
