The air was filled with an eerie energy, almost as if the mountain itself was breathing heavily beneath the shadow of the mansion. I hurried on, my boots pounding the ground firmly as I weaved through the gohuls, skeletons, and specters that blocked my path. My eyes scanned every corner, every shadow, but I found nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing to explain the feeling that something was terribly wrong, and no clue as to why the portal had changed range.

I decided to be more methodical. I let my mana spread out, flowing from my fingertips like an invisible net covering the ground. Every leaf, every stone, every crack in the earth was being scanned with precision. But there was no trace of anomalies, no residual magic, no hidden portals. Nothing. At least on the outside, there was still a place left.
