As the remaining members of his team continued to fight for their lives, in a fancy apartment in a distant part of the city, a young man opened his eyes.

Actually, Lane Allen was not a Guide, but rather an Esper with a mysterious Plunder ability! It allowed him to possess other people’s bodies, and steal their awakened abilities. Keeping his real body safe, Lane could enjoy life to the fullest, constantly swapping identities, and doing whatever he wanted without ever worrying about the consequences! How great was that?

Damien Lennox grabbed Lane’s arm, and pressed him against the wall, his clear green eyes staring down at Lane intently, as if he could see right through him. “There’s no one else whose guidance feels so harsh and chaotic, yet pleasing at the same time.”
It seems that Damien was somehow able to recognize Lane even after switching identities, and is unwilling to let him go?

Lane's words left Damien unsettled. He might have temporarily dismissed them, but they still stuck in his head. And, as a result, he became even more vigilant. Slowing down their already sluggish pace even further. The furry creatures might have seemed relatively weak and harmless, but who knew? Maybe they were just pretending to be so, in order to lower their guard? Either way, he didn't want to risk getting ambushed.

And it wasn't just him - the rest of the team also had heard Lane's comments, and were now all mulling it over in their heads, coming with their own ideas. Were those cute yet stinky teddy bears friend or foe? What were they after?

They had no way of getting any answers, not yet at least. But, the next time they stumbled upon a settlement, they all jointly agreed to avoid it by taking a long detour around.
