17 Clash of Wills

Entity Zero's charge shattered the ground beneath its feet, sending shards of digital debris flying through the air. The sheer force of its movement left a scorched trail in its wake, radiating overwhelming power.

Shen Yuchen barely had time to react. He willed the glowing chains restraining the Eradicators to dissolve, redirecting the freed energy into a protective barrier around himself and Su Wan-ning.

Boom!

Entity Zero's armored fist crashed into the barrier, sending shockwaves rippling outward. Cracks spread across the shimmering surface like spiderwebs.

"Hold it together!" Su Wan-ning shouted, steadying him as his knees buckled from the strain.

Shen Yuchen gritted his teeth, focusing every ounce of his willpower. The digital symbols composing the barrier glowed brighter, fighting against the destructive force pressing down on them.

But Entity Zero was relentless. With a second devastating strike, the barrier shattered into fragments of light.

Before they could react, Entity Zero raised its hand again. Streams of violet lightning crackled around its fingertips, ready to unleash another attack.

No... not like this!

Summoning the last of his strength, Shen Yuchen thrust his hands forward. Lines of code surged from his fingertips, weaving into a shield of flickering data—but he knew it wouldn't hold for long.

Suddenly, a familiar system voice echoed in his mind.

"System Override Protocol Initiated. Authorization: Shen Yuchen."

His mind buzzed with sudden clarity as shimmering lines of code scrolled before his eyes, symbols he'd never seen yet instinctively understood.

"Yuchen, what are you doing?" Su Wan-ning's voice pierced through the chaos, her eyes wide with both fear and determination.

"No time to explain," he panted. "Just... trust me."

With newfound precision, Shen Yuchen directed the swirling energy, reshaping the battlefield itself. Digital spires emerged from the fragmented terrain, forming towering pillars of defense.

Entity Zero paused, tilting its head ever so slightly as if analyzing the sudden shift.

"Adaptive system detected. Recalibrating threat level."

Before it could act, a spiraling beam of concentrated light burst from one of the spires, forcing Entity Zero to dodge with unnatural agility.

"You're controlling the Core Domain now?" Su Wan-ning's voice was tinged with awe.

"For now," Shen Yuchen replied grimly. "But it won't last long."

Just as he spoke, the ground trembled violently. The pillars he created began to destabilize, their shimmering surfaces flickering like a failing signal. The strain of reshaping reality was pushing his limits.

Entity Zero's cold, mechanical voice rang out once more.

"Primary objective recalibrated: Eliminate core anomaly."

Before Shen Yuchen could respond, Entity Zero vanished—only to reappear inches from him, its massive blade already descending.

Time seemed to slow.

Is this... the end?

A surge of heat blazed behind him, followed by the sharp clang of metal striking metal. Shen Yuchen stumbled back, gasping.

Standing between him and Entity Zero was a figure cloaked in shimmering energy, wielding twin plasma-edged swords. The newcomer's presence radiated defiant power, matching Entity Zero's deadly aura.

"Access denied," the figure growled, locking blades with Entity Zero.

Shen Yuchen's breath caught in his throat.

He knew that voice.

But how?
