Lanling's soul shuddered as he sharply turned to Haruki, who was still holding back three more wolves while the soldiers hacked at them from a distance.

Something deep within him seemed to awaken at Kael's reminder—his soul urged him, almost overwhelming him, to hug Haruki tightly and cry out his grievances.

But he didn't understand where all these emotions came from. It felt similar to when he realized Haruki was Ruki all along, but deeper and more raw.

"…My fated?" His whisper trembled, hesitation gripping his mind even as his heart pounded against his chest.

A hissing whisper jolted Lanling awake. The familiar voice of Mainu made him subconsciously grip his sword and turn, ready to parry. But he had no time to tense his muscles—the claws easily pressed against his blade, shoving it into his chest and sending him stumbling back.
