Chapter:74

Copycat: A move that mimics the opponent's attack and immediately uses the same skill in response.

It had to be said—this ability was practically a cheat move, allowing a Pokémon to copy even the strongest techniques. But fortunately, only a limited number of Pokémon could learn it. Coincidentally, Riolu was one of them.

Facing Mega Gyarados' Hydro Pump, Riolu used Copycat without hesitation. Almost instantly, energy gathered in its mouth, and it fired a Hydro Pump of its own, colliding head-on with the massive torrent from its opponent.

Misty scoffed. "Copycat, huh? But that won't change anything! In terms of raw strength, Mega Gyarados is far superior to your Riolu. Besides, how can a Fighting-type Pokémon's Hydro Pump ever compare to a Water-type Mega Gyarados' Hydro Pump?"

She was right—Copycat could replicate the technique, but it didn't copy the opponent's stats. Riolu's Special Attack was much lower than Mega Gyarados', and Water-type moves weren't even part of its natural skill set. The outcome of this clash was inevitable.

Riolu's Hydro Pump was quickly overpowered, and Mega Gyarados' attack shattered through it, striking Riolu directly and sending it flying. However, the damage was not as severe as expected.

Satoshi smirked. "I knew Riolu's attack wouldn't beat Mega Gyarados, but my real goal was to reduce the damage as much as possible."

Misty sighed, but shook her head. "Even if you tried to minimize the damage, the battle situation is back to square one—except now, my Mega Gyarados is completely unharmed, while your Riolu has already taken damage. No matter how you look at it, your attack was a failure."

She wasn't about to give Satoshi any time to regroup. "Let's move on to the next round—I want to see how you dodge this! Mega Gyarados, use Surf!"

At her command, Mega Gyarados summoned a massive tidal wave from the battlefield's water, raising it high above the ground before crashing it toward Riolu like a tsunami.

Satoshi frowned. "Tch… This is bad. There's no way to dodge an attack this massive."

He had hoped for more time to adjust his tactics, but Misty had read his intentions and attacked before he could strategize.

"It seems like I only have one option left… I really didn't want to do this, but I have no choice."

"Riolu, use Quick Attack again!"

With only seconds to react, Satoshi made a quick decision. Thanks to his Evergreen Ability, he could communicate with his Pokémon even without words—Riolu immediately understood his strategy.

Despite the incoming tidal wave, Riolu's eyes burned with determination. It believed in Satoshi, and it believed in its own strength. Victory was still possible! Without hesitation, it charged straight toward Mega Gyarados with Quick Attack.

Misty's expression turned to amusement. "You're actually rushing in? Satoshi, are you out of options? Then let me end this! Mega Gyarados, crush it!"

Her confidence was clear—she was certain that Satoshi had no more tricks up his sleeve. In her mind, Riolu, lacking long-range attacks, had no way to counter Mega Gyarados. Even though Fighting-types were strong against Dark-types, it wouldn't matter if Riolu couldn't land a hit.

"Roar!"

Mega Gyarados bellowed in fury, clearly offended that a tiny Riolu was daring to challenge it head-on. With all its might, it unleashed the massive tidal wave.

The water crashed over Riolu, swallowing it whole.

Misty let out a sigh, watching as her attack completely engulfed her opponent. "It's over," she muttered.

However…

Riolu didn't stop moving.

Even as the waves crashed around its small body, even as it was battered by the overwhelming force, Riolu kept pushing forward. Step by step, despite the incredible resistance, it refused to back down!

Misty's eyes widened. "A Fighting-type's endurance is usually impressive… But I didn't expect your Riolu to still be moving under these conditions."

Satoshi's voice was firm. "It's not just because it's a Fighting-type. Riolu is just that strong. Maybe it's not fully evolved yet, but its perseverance is already on par with the strongest Pokémon."

Misty sighed. "Unfortunately, determination alone won't change a battle with such a massive power gap. Mega Gyarados, end this! Use Hyper Beam!"

Even though she admired Riolu's tenacity, she wouldn't hold back just because she respected its willpower.

This was a serious battle.

If she hesitated just because her opponent was strong-willed, it would be an insult to the match.

So she would give Riolu the strongest attack she had—to show her respect for its strength.

Mega Gyarados tilted its head back, energy gathering rapidly in its gaping maw.

A massive surge of power built up—a Hyper Beam.

Originally, a Level 34 Gyarados shouldn't have been able to use this move yet. But Misty had specifically trained it for a long time to master this skill, knowing that it would be crucial for Mega Evolution battles.

With the boost from Mega Evolution, Mega Gyarados could now barely pull off this devastating move.

The moment the Surf attack ended, Riolu stood its ground—still standing, still alive.

But it was in critical condition—in game terms, its HP was almost gone.

And now, Mega Gyarados had finished charging its Hyper Beam.

A terrifying cannon of pure destructive energy blasted from its jaws.

The blinding light was so intense that it outshone the sun for an instant.

The sheer force of the attack kicked up hurricane-like winds, and the battlefield shook from the overwhelming energy output.

The ground itself was torn apart, a deep trench carved into the arena by the sheer force of the blast.

The unstoppable beam raced toward Riolu, ready to end the battle once and for all.

The attack completely engulfed Riolu.
