CHAPTER 82

Avery looked up at Alexander and said seriously, "I may be young, but I'm not afraid of anything." She clenched her fists and added, "I'm very capable."

Alexander smiled, his eyes as gentle as the spring breeze. "Yes, I know you are very capable." Then, he lowered his eyes and played with the stone cup. His eyes became deep, and his voice grew low.

"Fifteen minutes before my sister was hit by the truck, I received a call from an unknown number. The processed voice told me that if I went to Lucy as quickly as I could, I might still see her one last time. I called my sister, but the signal was bad, and I couldn't get through. Luckily, it was already midnight when I received the call. The roads in the city were empty, which allowed me to speed toward the suburbs. I called my doctor friend along the way too."

Alexander paused before adding, "The truck driver had explosives strapped to his body. He was waiting for me to show up."
