Mariana's POV

Natalia's estate was just as extravagant as I had expected. The sprawling mansion was lit up beautifully, the golden glow of chandeliers spilling out through massive windows. A live band played softly in the background as well-dressed guests mingled in the grand hall, sipping on expensive champagne.

Aiden and I arrived together, stepping into the lavish affair like we belonged there. In a way, we did. I had gotten used to the way people turned to stare when we walked into a room. The way women whispered behind their glasses. The way men measured Aiden with sharp, calculating glances.

Natalia greeted us at the entrance, dressed in a fitted emerald gown that complemented her rich brown curls. Her smile widened the moment she saw us.

"Marian, Aiden! You made it," she said, pulling me into a light hug before turning to Aiden with a teasing grin. "I was almost convinced you'd send a last-minute excuse."
