Things felt out of place

Summer's POV

The night had been quiet, the kind of peaceful that usually put me at ease. Marian and I were sprawled across the living room, watching some over-the-top action movie where the hero took down an entire gang without breaking a sweat. The faint glow from the television flickered across the dimly lit space, and I let myself relax, absently munching on a handful of popcorn.

For once, things felt… normal.

Then my phone buzzed.

At first, I ignored it. Probably some useless update or a text from Aiden about security. But then it vibrated again. And again.

I sighed and picked it up, expecting something mundane.

But when I saw the message on my screen, my breath caught.

Unknown Number: Hey princess.

I sat up straighter, my pulse spiking.

No.

It couldn't be.

I stared at the message, my fingers tightening around the phone. My mind instantly supplied the only person who would send something like that.
