"Miss Granger, Mr. Weasley, Mr. Longbottom. What can I do for you today?" Professor McGonagall asked. Hermione immediately retold of their encounter in the Entrance Hall. "This happened just a few moments ago, you say? How did you get here?" the Professor asked. "I am not sure" replied Hermione. "One second we were there, then there was a pop and we were here." She then felt a tug on her robes and looked down, seeing Dobby. "Mr. Harry Potter sir asked mes to watch over Miss before he was taken away" Dobby stated, looking down at his feet and shuffling.
"As soon as bad former masterstarted yelling I bes getting another elf to helps me. Better to not be in path of wizarding spells when outnumbered" he continued. Hermione knelt down and hugged Dobby. "Thank you" she said, "and thank our friend" she whispered so only he could hear. Dobby didn't know what to do with himself, being hugged and thanked, so he popped away. "Let's go see about this confrontation you have been telling me about" Professor McGonagall stated, and led the students out of her office and toward the Entrance Hall.
As they were descending the last steps into the Entrance Hall, they were confronted by Professor Snape. "50 points off Gryffindor for starting a confrontation in the hall, Ms. Granger, and performing magic in the hallways!" he yelled. "What confrontation are you talking about Professor Snape?" McGonagall asked. "Mr. Malfoy just told me that Ms. Granger, Mr. Weasley, and Mr. Longbottom confronted him and his party here in this Hall, drawing their wands and attempting to hex them. Only the quick thinking of Mr. Malfoy, creating a Protego shield to protect them, saved them from the hexes" the Professor responded. "I see." Professor McGonagall said. "Please bring Mr. Malfoy up to the Headmaster's Office. I will want his input on this matter. I will see you and Mr. Malfoy in no more than 10 minutes, Professor Snape." She then marched Hermione, Ron and Neville up the stairs to the Headmaster's office.
As they entered the Headmaster's office, Fawkes looked up, then flew over to Hermione's shoulder and preened her hair. The Headmaster was watching this extraordinary event. "In all my years Fawkes has only behaved that way for one other person." He said. "It is unfortunate that that person, Harry Potter, is no longer with us." He continued sadly. "Even when he is not here anymore, it is always about Potter" mumbled Ron.
Professor Snape and Draco Malfoy then entered the office. "Now then, what can I do for you all?" asked the Headmaster. Professor McGonagall began – "It appears that a confrontation occurred in the Entrance Hall this morning. Mr. Malfoy claims that Miss Granger, Mr. Weasley and Mr. Longbottom pulled wands on them and tried to hex them. Mr. Malfoy further contends that he blocked the hexes using a Protego shieled, and then Miss Granger and her friends left. I've heard a different description of these events and would like to use your Pensive to view all the memories before coming to a decision on the matter." The Headmaster looked at Professor Snape – "Other than you being Head of House Slytherin, what is your involvement Severus?" he asked.
"Mr. Malfoy came to me directly after the incident. I awarded him 50 points for quick thinking, performing a good defensive shield to protect himself and his friends, disengaging from the conflict, and coming to a professor to report the incident." he responded. Well then, let's have a look. Mr. Malfoy, you first. Please think of the confrontation this morning from the very beginning to the end. Draco was beginning to panic. Then he concentrated on the obscure spell as he remembered the event; he tried to overlay the memory as he wanted it to be, over and over. He felt a cold sensation from his temple, almost as if cold jelly was being sucked from his mind.
As they entered the memory, some behind the scenes action was also taking place. Dobby had popped over to his master and quietly told him what was going on (Evan was in the middle of a field exercise on camouflage and evasion, so could take a few minutes to talk.) Evan suggested Dobby visit the infirmary and find some scopolamine. (Evan knew sodium pentathol was portrayed as a truth serum in the muggle world, but was also told by his instructors it was more of a barbiturate/anxiety suppressant that enabled one to overcome their inhibitions. Scopolamine was similar but had some other interesting side effects). He told Dobby to also get some veritussum from Snape's stores – only a drop. Then to get everybody to drink some tea, and replace a few drops of Draco's tea with the scopolamine/veritussum mixture.
