'9 wins and 2 losses…'
Law immediately understood, if Sandy won against him, he would secure his tenth victory and gain the right to challenge the Floor Master. Conversely, if he lost, his record would become 9 wins, 3 losses, putting him on the brink of elimination.
If a contestant lost four times before achieving ten wins, they would have to start all over again, even if they later reached ten victories.
'Is he really that confident he can beat me?'
Law thought to himself. In his battles below the 200th floor, he hadn't even used Nen, so it was no surprise that Sandy underestimated him.
Without lingering any further, he turned around and left.
The girl at the counter looked at Law's departing figure, a trace of pity flashing in her eyes.
Excluding the Floor Masters who occupied the highest levels, there were a lot of contestants above the 200th floor, with widely varying skill levels. Some of them had only become a Nen User after undergoing a so-called 'Baptism'.
The so-called 'Baptism' is to withstand the attacks of the Nen user, thereby forcibly opening their Aura Nodes and getting the opportunity to master Nen.
However, not every ordinary person who undergoes the 'Baptism' is extremely lucky, and missing limbs is the norm. Of course, there were a few rare cases where individuals survived the process with their bodies intact.
These contestants, having gained Nen through 'Baptism', managed to earn their place on the 200th floor. However, aside from a handful of naturally gifted individuals, most of them were not particularly strong.
The 200+ floors were a chaotic mix of talents, where the skill gap between contestants was as vast as the wealth gap between rich and poor. In this hierarchy, Sandy was akin to a wealthy elite, as he's one of the top fighters.
In the perspective of the girl at the counter, a newcomer like Law facing one of the strongest contestants was nothing short of a nightmare. Losing a match was one thing, but if he ended up permanently crippled, that would be truly unfortunate.
When Law left the registration office, he did not see the pity in the girl's eyes. He glanced at the number on his keychain and slowly wandered through the halls, searching for his room.
Along the way, he encountered dozens of contestants, and all of them Nen Users.
When this group of people saw Law, they had strange expressions on their faces. They obviously recognized Law's identity, but none of them approached him directly.
After taking quite a detour, Law finally arrived at his room, Room 2088.
He opened the door with the key and walked into the room, which was a luxurious room with decoration comparable to that of a presidential suite. The difference between this room and the rooms below the 200th floor was night and day.
Law closed the door behind him. There was a 50-inch display screen hanging on the wall in the middle of the hall, and a booklet was placed on the coffee table in the living room.
After taking a quick look at the decorations in the room, Law lost interest. He walked over to the coffee table, picked up the booklet, and flipped through it. It was filled with images of high-end luxury goods, fine cuisine, and premium alcohol.
Once a contestant reached the 200th floor, they never had to worry about living expenses. If they want something, they can just make a phone call and the Heavens Arena will deliver it to their room with the utmost efficiency.
The receptionist had mentioned earlier that fights above the 200th floor no longer awarded prize money. However, the fact that so many contestants were willing to risk their lives for these battles suggested there had to be another incentive.
The most crucial reason is still money, specifically, the profit-sharing from the betting pools.
Law skimmed through a brief explanation in the booklet before tossing it back onto the table.
He thought to himself, 'If Buhara makes it to the 200th floors, we'd save a ton on food expenses, since everything here is included. He could eat to his heart's content.'
"Buhara and Sanbica should be able to register by tomorrow."
Law sank into the plush sofa and shifted his thoughts back to Sandy, 'The nickname, 'Pyromaniac', was likely earned through his battles in the Heavens Arena. Judging by the name, his Nen Ability probably involved fire in some way.'
At this moment, the display screen, which had been turned off, suddenly flickered to life.
"Tomorrow, 3:00 PM."
Law looked at the words on the monitor and knew that this was the exact time of his match tomorrow. His opponent was indeed Sandy.
After a moment of thought, he pulled out his phone and called Biscuit.
After a few rings, the call was connected.
"What?" Biscuit's very impolite voice came from the other end of the phone.
"I've applied for the match. It will be at 3 PM tomorrow." Law didn't waste any words and went straight to the point.
Biscuit was silent for a moment, then said, "You really couldn't wait, huh?"
"I just met Atomu. He was waiting for me in the hallway." Law explained.
"Oh?" Biscuit was surprised.
"I want to fight him as soon as possible," Law said.
"That's fine, but I have one condition." Biscuit replied.
"What condition?"
"You must earn the right to challenge Atomu with a flawless record. No losses."
"Okay." Law agreed without hesitation.
"Who will be our opponent tomorrow?" Biscuit asked.
Law paused and said, "Pyromaniac Sandy."
"Never heard of him."
Hearing this, Law's mouth twitched slightly, 'You've been out of touch with the Heavens Arena for so long, so of course you wouldn't know him.'
"I suggest you don't research your opponent before the fight. This may increase your risk in the battle, but it can also improve your ability to adapt." Biscuit continued.
Knowing your opponent's abilities beforehand would undoubtedly provide an advantage going into a fight, but Law came to the Heavens Arena for training. If he can face opponents with unknown Nen Abilities one by one, he will quickly accumulate valuable experience.
"I understand." Law said.
"Just stay put for today. We'll be there tomorrow to watch your match. Bye."
After Biscuit said the last sentence, she simply hung up the phone, leaving Law with only a series of silent sounds.
Law put his phone away and picked up the booklet from the coffee table again. He wanted to order something to eat.
At this time, the silver flame pattern on the back of his hand turned into Black Cat. He perched directly on Law's shoulder, raised his paw and pointed at the food images in the booklet, and said, "I want this, this, and this!"
Law rolled his eyes when he saw this. Having a gluttonous Nen Beast is seriously a hassle. If Black Cat wasn't actually useful, especially for storing his Shin, he might have just forbidden it from appearing at all.
After ordering a lot of food, the staff delivered the food in less than half an hour. Their efficiency was amazing.
…
In a remote, small noodle shop in a certain area of the Yorbian Continent.
Machi, Uvogin, and Nobunaga were seated at a small table, eating noodles. There was a wooden frame nailed to the wall of the shop, on which was placed a small color TV.
Machi and Nobunaga sat on one side of the table with their backs to the TV, while Uvogin, being the largest, had an entire bench to himself, sitting across from them.
A towering stack of empty bowls piled up in front of Uvogin. The noodle shop owner eyed the three strange customers warily, especially the big guy, whose appetite was really scary.
Slurp!
Uvogin sucked in a huge mouthful of noodles, chewing while absentmindedly watching the TV screen.
Suddenly, as if seeing something incredible, Uvogin opened his mouth and sprayed all the noodles he had just taken into his mouth onto Nobunaga's face.
"Law?"
Just as Nobunaga was about to start cursing, he heard Uvogin calling out Law's name.
