Monster Experiment

The heavy, muffled sounds echoed from the back of the passage. Rakien and Kahn gripped their weapons tightly, their nerves on edge. They didn't know what was coming, but the oppressive feeling was like an invisible hand, squeezing their hearts tightly.

"Did you hear that?" Kahn whispered, his forehead beaded with cold sweat.

Rakien didn't respond. They stood in the passage, surrounded by darkness, as the muffled sounds grew closer. Each thud was steady and powerful, as if each step was declaring an inevitable fate.

Suddenly, the sounds stopped. The entire passage fell into an eerie silence, as if the noises had never been there.

"It stopped..." Kahn's voice trembled slightly, "But it's still there, it feels like... it's watching us!"

"Stay still," Rakien warned in a low voice. His eyes narrowed slightly in the darkness, trying to catch any subtle changes.

A faint sound of friction came from the other end of the passage, as if some creature hidden in the shadows was slowly approaching. They held their breath, the air around them becoming thin, time seemingly stretching infinitely at this moment.

Suddenly, at the end of the dark, abyss-like passage, a faint light flashed like a meteor streaking across the night sky. This light emitted an eerie orange hue, like the glow of hell's flames. It was like a lightning bolt, tearing through the curtain of darkness and briefly illuminating everything around.

In that fleeting moment of light, Rakien, with his keen eyesight, caught a glimpse of a towering silhouette. This shadow was not human! Its body was unusually large, like a small hill standing there. Its limbs were disproportionately long and thin, making one feel a chilling sense of unease. As it moved, its actions were light and agile, like a nimble and silent predator lurking in the night, quietly approaching its target.

"What the hell is that?!" Kahn asked urgently, but his voice was almost choked by the fear in his throat.

"I don't know..." Rakien replied softly. His mind flashed with some vague images, as if resonating with some of his past memories.

At that moment, the shadow moved again. Its speed was incredibly fast, almost instantly crossing their line of sight and heading straight for their position. Rakien and Kahn quickly retreated, but the monster's speed far exceeded their imagination. It let out a deep roar, as if filled with endless rage and hunger.

"Run!!" Rakien suddenly grabbed Kahn's arm, and the two quickly turned and sprinted down another passage. The roars behind them grew closer, as if the monster was almost upon them.

"What kind of monster is it?!" Kahn panted, his steps hurried, but he still remained vigilant.

"I don't know! But it clearly doesn't want us to leave alive!" Rakien replied, his mind still piecing together various fragmented clues. Could this be some kind of leftover experimental subject? Or some kind of alien creature that arrived through the time gate?

The two quickly turned a corner and entered a narrow space. They leaned against the wall, panting heavily, still hearing the heavy pursuit sounds in their ears.

"We can't keep running, we won't outrun it!" Rakien panted, "We need to find a place to hide."

In the moment they paused briefly, a loud noise came from the end of the passage. The metal plates on the wall were knocked open, and a huge claw broke through the ceiling, as if to demonstrate its power. The monster's figure appeared in their sight again, its red eyes glowing ominously in the darkness.

Rakien suddenly pulled Kahn back, seeing the monster approaching within fifteen meters. They turned the corner of the passage and suddenly noticed a small door nearby, quickly pushed it open, and pushed Kahn inside.

"Get in!" he shouted, quickly following him in. He turned and locked the door tightly, cutting off the roars outside. Although the door was made of metal, it wasn't very thick, and they quickly moved some heavy objects to block the door.

The room was filled with a dim and weak light, as if forgotten by time, appearing particularly dark and deep. They hurriedly stepped into this mysterious space, their eyes quickly scanning the surrounding environment.

It indeed looked like a laboratory, but it was filled with the marks of time and the air of decay. In the corner, there were some outdated, dilapidated experimental devices scattered about, covered in dust and rust, as if telling of past glory and vicissitudes. Along with them were stacks of yellowed files, randomly scattered on the ground, some already broken and illegible.

However, the most eye-catching was the huge glass jar in the center of the room. It stood tall like a lonely monument, exuding an awe-inspiring aura. Through the hazy glass, one could see it filled with an unknown liquid, showing an eerie color, occasionally flickering with a faint light. And within this mysterious liquid, there was a sleeping figure floating! The figure lay there quietly, motionless, as if trapped in an eternal dream.

"What is that?" Kahn asked in surprise, approaching the jar to closely examine the creature inside. It looked humanoid but had some strange features: its head was large, the eyes were big, the nose and mouth were small, the skin had a faint blue glow, and its eyes were closed, as if in a deep sleep.

"What is this..." Rakien murmured, the creature in the jar might be the product of some top-secret experiment conducted in the past. Perhaps, it had some connection with the monster chasing them.

At that moment, the walls of the room began to vibrate slightly.

"We don't have much time, we have to find a way out of here," Rakien said urgently, his gaze shifting around the room, trying to find another exit, but disappointedly finding that this room had no other exits.

Kahn's attention was firmly drawn to the creature in the jar. He walked slowly towards the control panel, his fingers lightly brushing over the buttons on the panel, trying to activate some devices.

"Kahn, what are you doing?" Rakien asked seriously.

Kahn turned around, an indescribable expression flickering in his eyes, "This creature looks human, there's a symbol on its clothes, indicating it's not a beast. Since we can't get out, if we try to wake it up, maybe, just maybe it can save us? At least it doesn't look like a beast."

Rakien hesitated for a moment, then nodded, "We have no choice, we'll probably die if we go out, so... let's try."

As Kahn pressed the start button, the liquid in the jar began to flow slowly, and the creature in the sleep seemed to start showing a faint response. At the same time, the roars of the monster outside grew more intense.

As the liquid in the jar gradually drained, the creature's body began to tremble slightly. Kahn nervously watched the instruments on the control panel, as if worried that the slightest mistake would lead to unimaginable consequences. Inside the glass jar, the creature's eyelids twitched slightly, as if about to wake up.

Rakien gripped his weapon tightly, vigilantly watching the door, the roars of the monster outside becoming more intense, and the walls of the room began to tremble uneasily, with cracks spreading along the walls.

"Hurry up, Kahn!" Rakien urged in a low voice, his eyes revealing anxiety.

Kahn quickly adjusted the parameters on the control panel, the liquid in the jar drained faster, and the creature's body seemed to regain more vitality. His eyes finally opened, revealing a faint blue glow, filled with an incredible sense of mystery. At that moment, the monster outside let out a deafening roar, as if it had discovered their location.

The door was suddenly hit, the lock clicked, and the heavy objects behind the door swayed. "It's coming in!" Rakien shouted.

Kahn spun around, and the creature had already climbed out of the jar and stood on the ground, tall and slender, with huge, deep, and lightless eyes, flickering with an unsettling chill. Its limbs were slender, but its movements were unusually swift. In that instant, the creature's eyes met theirs for a moment, as if assessing their threat and intentions.
