The rain fell on Roxie's body. Her circumstances was similar to the situation the first two players who went into the rain faced.
Her skin started to ulcerate.
Her nerves sent signals of pain to her brain repeatedly.
Her teeth bit down on her bottom lip. She had been through things that were much worse. She was not going to lose her cool because of a level E acid rain.
Roxie contined to wait. She timed herself. If nothing happened after three minutes, she would go back into the store and wear adequate gear.
Then, she would take her leave. Although she suspected that players might have an higher chance of awakening a superpower, nothing was 100% sure yet.
A ball of fire came into being in her heart. The heat from this ball of fire spread through every flesh, muscles and veins in Roxie's body. It felt like she was bathing in a hot water pool.
It was very relaxing. The comfort from this unknown sensation made the pain she was feeling because of the acid rain lesser.
The corner of her lips hooked up into a smile. It seemed she would be able to get a superpower after all.
Roxie continued to wait.
The phenomenon inside her body continued.
Soon, the heat that was flowing all through her body started to gather in her hands.
Roxie flowed with the feeling.
She stretched her hands out and looked down at it.
Rain fell on her open palm.
Her palm didn't sustain new injuries.
The residual water on her palm started to lose the light green color that permeated it.
The water became sparkling and transparent.
Roxie clenched her fist and the sparkling water flowed along her arm.
She knew what her superpower was intuitively.
It was the ability to purify acid.
The acid rain that kept falling on her body couldn't make any new wounds.
The past wounds the rain caused didn't disappear into thin air or heal dramatically.
Still, Roxie was satisfied.
She might not have the ability to heal from acid damage immediately but she was satisfied with what she got.
Roxie observed her body again.
Although she didn't have an healing ability, her physique as an awakened person increased her body's healing capabilities. The thing she would be able to do in this world was limitless.
Now, the first priority is for her to look for solutions to this acid rain apocalypse.
No one knows what caused the acid rain apocalypse. Only the system would know something like that. Back in her original world, humans were like parasites on Earth. More resources were being destroyed and plants or natural resources were going extinct.
Since 99% of the things in this world was similar to the situation of earth, Roxie suspected that this acid rain might have been caused by humans themselves.
No guess was 100% certain though.
Finding the cause of the apocalypse would not do much for her right now, she would rather work on looking for solutions to implement.
In-depth knowledge about acid wasn't something Roxie had. She was studying how to design jewelries in the university.
Although she had been baptized by multiple apocalyptic worlds, she was still a noob in things like that. In the apocalypse, there was no time to really learn scientific thing properly. The only exception was if a person had been in the scientific field before any apocalypse happened.
Tackling this acid rain apocalypse would require knowledge in acidic compounds, chemistry and many other scientific fields. This wasn't something she could do alone. She would have to partner up with other players.
She still wanted to keep her one man army motto. Alas, her hands were tied in the circumstances.
Since the thing she aimed to achieve had been accomplished, Roxie walked back to the agricultural store.
Although the acid rain cannot hurt her now, she still had unhealed wounds to tend to. Besides, she might be able to find treasures or useful people when the rain died down. There was advantages for waiting.
Footsteps followed her.
Roxie turned around to confront her tail after getting into the store. No surprise, the person that had been following her was the adopted son of the store owner.
She raised a brow.
"You are a player." The man said.
His sentence was declarative.
"Yes." Roxie nodded.
"I think we should work together. Your mission should be about stopping the apocalypse too, right? For an apocalypse of this magnitude, it would be best if players gathered together." The man said, "My name is Kai by the way."
"My name is Roxie, pleased to meet you." Roxie replied, "Your suggestion is going down the right track. Players need to gather together to overcome this."
In her past life, she was the kind of player that followed after the other players. Since she had decided to be a lone wolf in her past life, there was little she could change in each apocalyptic world she visited. These sent her into a downward spiral.
Since she didn't contribute much to the solution in an apocalyptic world, the points and rewards she got was on the smaller side. Smaller points and rewards would not give her an edge in the next world. That vicious cycle continued until she died.
Her fear of being backstabbed and betrayed separated her from a few good things.
The only thing she had been able to do was to just perform as best as she could in every world. Unfortunately, that meant she was settling for breadcrumbs when others are staking their claim on big win and discoveries.
This life, she would do better.
The passive attitude of her first life would turn into active actions this time around.
Roxie continued, "We need to discuss more about these collaboration between players. We need to find more players to join in too and—"
She wasn't able to finish her sentence.
Something crashed into the store.
The rundown state of the agricultural store worsened.
Silence returned to the store and someone stood up shakily from the mess caused by the new crash.
From the body build of the stranger, it was a man.
The new arrival raised his face.
Roxie's mouth dropped open.
The familiar face was a surprise.
The new arrival was Ambrose.
