As he climbed the stairs to his room, Kaius could not get the scene he had just witnessed out of his mind.
What kind of person was Lilian? He wondered how someone could barge into someone else's home, slap someone she didn't even know and, to top it all off, demand protection for something she herself had caused. What angered him most was not the slap, but the fact that Lilian had tried to manipulate James, wanting him to defend her no matter what she had done.
Kaius didn't realize that his magic was starting to get out of control. The anger and negative feelings bubbling up inside him were seeping into his surroundings. The elements around him were reacting to his emotional state, slowly destabilizing. Fortunately-or perhaps not so fortunately-James had left after Lilian to avoid further trouble.
When Kaius reached his room, Black immediately manifested, appearing in front of him with a worried expression.
-You need to calm down, Kaius. You can't let this control you," Black said in a soothing voice.
Black looked up and, through the window, noticed that the wind outside the house was beginning to swirl erratically. His gaze fixed on the seal he saw in kaius' eyes, the seal of the arrows. It was then that he understood that it could not be a coincidence. The wind was reacting to his anger.
-How...? -he muttered, his voice laden with confusion and fear.
-Your magic is out of control, Kaius. The elements respond to your emotions," Black explained as he tried to calm him. This is not something you can ignore, please calm down.
Meanwhile, outside the house...
James and Lilian were engaged in an argument.
-How can you not defend me, James? I'm your girlfriend! -Lilian shouted, her tone accusing and full of rage.
-You're the one who started it. You hit him, Lilian. He was only defending himself," James replied patiently, though the tension in his voice was palpable. But you're right about one thing: he could have acted differently.
Lilian looked at him in disbelief before retorting hysterically:
-It was because I was at your house and you didn't tell me! I'm sure he told you not to invite me. He doesn't want me here, I'm sure of it!
The wind around began to blow with sudden force, interrupting the discussion. But it was no ordinary wind; it seemed to have a will of its own. Swirling around it, it pulled Lilian as if trying to drag her away. Small but visible cuts began to appear on her skin, as if the wind was sharp as invisible blades.
-James, do something! -Lilian shouted in desperation, feeling her body almost coming off the ground.
Suddenly, everything stopped. The wind ceased as abruptly as it had begun, leaving a tense calm in the air. James, alarmed, held her by the shoulders and guided her back into the house, making sure she was safe.
In Kaius' room....
Black stood behind Kaius, hugging him tightly from behind. His hands gently covered Kaius's eyes, trying to block out anything that might aggravate his condition
-Calm yourself...child the emotions are strong and alter your magic and that of your surroundings-whispered Black, his tone as comforting as an older brother's.
Kaius was breathing heavily, but slowly he began to calm down, his tense muscles relaxing under Black's protective embrace.
after a few minutes Kaius withdrew Black's hand from his face, though he didn't quite break the contact. The two stood in silence for a few moments, the atmosphere charged with a tense calm. However, that quiet was interrupted by Lilian's cries from downstairs, complaining about the wounds the wind had left on her skin.
-Those cuts are your handiwork, Kaius. Though you may not remember clearly what happened, I saw it all from the window," Black said, his tone grave but without judgment. Your emotions unleashed the wind.
Kaius frowned, his mind working quickly to process what he had just heard. An idea crossed his mind if his strong emotions did this with an element he had never used he exploited it like nothing else, an urgent need to control what had just happened.
Without thinking too much, he raised his left hand and held it in front of him, as if he was grasping something invisible. He closed his eyes and began to channel his magic, focusing on the air around him. He imagined the wind concentrating on his palm, visualizing it wrapping itself into a small whirlwind.
When she opened her eyes, a tiny tornado was dancing in her hand. the pure power of her emotions contained in something as delicate and dangerous as air.
-So it's true... -he muttered to himself, watching as the mini tornado spun before dissipating in a whisper of wind.
Kaius lowered his hand, taking a deep breath. Without waiting any longer, he headed for the stairs and descended. In the living room, he found James trying to clean Lilian's wounds, who was still complaining bitterly, her tone as sharp as her accusations.
Kaius crossed the space to the kitchen to get some water, deliberately passing Lilian. She looked at him with a mixture of anger and fear, but he pretended not to notice, acting as if everything was fine.As he walked back into the room , he threw out a casual question.
-What happened to this woman? She smells like blood since I came downstairs.
Lilian exploded, pointing a trembling finger at him:
-It was you! You must have cursed me!There is no other explanation.
James, who until that moment had remained calm, turned to Lilian with a stern expression.
-Lilian, demons don't possess magic. You know that as well as I do.It couldn't have been Kaius," he said with an authoritative tone, trying to calm the woman's hysteria.
Kaius, meanwhile, placed a bottle of water on the table and leaned against the kitchen doorframe, his expression neutral but his eyes sparkling with a glint of mischievous amusement.
-Curses? -she repeated with a slight smile.I'm sorry my dear, but I'm not that sophisticated. If I wanted to harm you, I wouldn't need magic to do it, I'd make you disappear and no one would find you.
Lilian looked at him with wide eyes, fear fighting her indignation. James tried to distract her as he continued to clean her wounds.
It was a few hours before James managed to calm Lilian down, though she still insisted on staying. She said she couldn't leave alone and that she needed to rest, but it was clear that her real purpose was to make sure she was close to James, even invading his personal space.
James, with all the patience he could muster, recommended that she return home and promised that he himself would accompany her to make sure she arrived safely.Lilian opened her mouth, ready to launch another protest, but Kaius bluntly interrupted her:
-Stop squealing like a little girl who wants a toy god you give me a headache I don't understand how they put up with you -he said, folding his arms and with a cutting tone that made it clear he was in no mood for more drama.
Lilian shut her mouth immediately, but not without her face flaring a furious red. Kaius watched indifferently as her anger bubbled beneath the surface, clearly unable to articulate a response.
He enjoyed it a little more than he should have.
As James tried to mediate between them, Kaius just hoped that his friend would finally realize what was obvious: Lilian didn't love him even when he had made it clear to her that her power was greater than James wanted her to attack him there he realized, she was just using him.The patterns were there, crystal clear, but James seemed blind to them.
fool- thought Kaius as Black whispered in agreement in his mind.
In the end, James decided to accompany Lilian home. Kaius, for his part, said nothing more, simply walked up the stairs to his room.He closed the door, plopped down on the bed and closed his eyes, hoping that the silence would finally allow him to rest after the chaos.
That woman gave me more of a headache than any complicated spell, he thought as he took a deep breath, trying to calm his mind.Black stood nearby lay down on the bed and nestled him in her lap, massaging his head trying to bring down the pain with a basic healing spell.
-What a bad first impression that woman made," Kaius muttered, half drowsily.
Black laughed softly, his warm presence filling the room.
-Don't give her any more thought. She doesn't deserve to take up space in your mind.
Kaius nodded, closing his eyes. He decided to take Black's advice and stopped thinking about Lilian. His body was so exhausted that, for the first time in weeks, he sank into a deep, dreamless sleep.More hours passed than he expected; when he awoke, he noticed that it was already six in the morning.
-I let you rest," Black said in a voice full of affection.
Kaius sat up in bed, running a hand over his face as he yawned.
-I already thought it was strange to have slept so much.
Getting up lazily, he checked his clothes from the day before. He didn't want to keep wearing the same thing, so with a quick creation spell he "printed" a new garment over the old ones: a green jacket, brown pants and a white dress shirt. It was something simple, but comfortable.
He decided to go take a shower before going downstairs. As he looked in the mirror, something caught his eye. There was a white strand in his dark hair.
He frowned and shook his head in surprise, thinking it was dust. But the lock was still there, shiny and striking. He tried to remove it, even ran his fingers through his hair several times, but it was no use. It was hers.
-Now what am I going to tell James? -she sighed, looking at her reflection with resignation
-Your magic is changing your body to what suits it best," Black said calmly.
Kaius rolled his eyes at his companion, clearly frustrated.
-And what does that have to do with my hair?
Black just smiled.
-Magic knows everything.Don't try to make sense of it.
Kaius let out a long sigh.He had no energy to argue. He stepped into the shower, letting the warm water relax his muscles, then dressed in the new clothes. Finally, he went downstairs, ready for the day to bring him, white locks and all.
Kaius descended the stairs in new clothes, trying to go unnoticed. He silently prayed he wouldn't run into James, but fate seemed to enjoy playing on his fears. There he was, sitting at the center bar in the kitchen, his gaze fixed on a half-empty glass of coffee.
James looked up, scowling, and glared at him.Kaius ignored him, but not for long.
-You know this could have been arranged differently," James said, breaking the silence in a strained voice.
Kaius paused, but did not turn away completely. His tone was low and firm, laden with barely contained menace:
-I warned him that if he kept it up, I would not hold back. This time it won't be empty words. No one will ever use the people I love again.
James looked at him, puzzled.
-What are you talking about?
Kaius didn't answer, just continued moving towards the exit. But James wouldn't let him get away so easily. He rose from his seat, determined to confront him. At that moment, something caught his eye: a white tuft in Kaius' dark hair, shiny and out of place, like a freshly exposed scar.
In one swift movement, she cornered him against the wall, pinning him by the shoulders. His eyes reflected a mixture of fear and anger.
-What the hell happened to your hair, is that dye?
Kaius looked at him, his patience already frayed.
-Why would I bother explaining anything to you if I know in advance you won't believe me?
The tension was almost palpable. James wanted to retort, but Kaius interrupted him with a final warning.
-When you decide to believe what I say or do, then and only then will I give you the answers you seek.
His footsteps brought him in front of an old house, one he knew all too well.It had belonged to his family years ago. Time had not been kind to it: the walls were cracked, and the front door looked like it could collapse with a breath of wind.
Kaius took a close look at it all, it was dusty and mostly destroyed. He wanted to restore it before he could find his little brother and bring him to live with him. Carefully, he pushed open the door, which creaked and wobbled before opening. The interior was darker than he remembered, as if the shadows had found refuge there.
As he entered the old living room, a sudden flash enveloped him. A magical dome unfolded around him, and Kaius tensed.
-Easy," Black said, his tone unconcerned. No one else can see this.
Kaius frowned.
-What does this mean, Black?
-The goddess of creation left you one last gift," Black replied, and a green leather notebook appeared floating in front of him.
Kaius took it carefully, examining it.
-What's so special about it?
-This notebook contains the money you accumulated in one of your two past lives," Black explained with a hint of amusement.
With a mixture of skepticism and curiosity, Kaius opened the notebook. His eyes widened as he saw the figure written on the first page: $30 million.
-Is this real?-he whispered, incredulous.
-As real as you and me," Black replied, mockingly.
Kaius shook his head, still processing the magnitude of what he had in his hands.
-Where did all this come from? what kind of job did he have before he was a gangster or something? I remember one of the lives was a woman or at least I managed to see the silhouettes at first maybe she was a girlfriend of some gangster?
black couldn't help but laugh at that he knew where that money came from but it would be funnier to see how he just remembered it.
-You'll have to remember that yourself," said Black, dodging the question. The important thing is that using it is simple: just whisper the amount you need, and it's yours.
-Can I put it in a bank? -asked Kaius, still hesitant.
-Of course," replied Black calmly. It's just like any other money.
Kaius closed the notebook and put a small sum in his pocket. The first thing would be to eat something, but not in a restaurant yet. Before anything else, he needed to feed himself.
-First, to the hospital," he muttered to himself, feeling a slight tingle in his fangs.
Kaius decided to walk to the hospital. It had been a while since he last enjoyed a leisurely stroll, and the change of scenery felt good. As he left the residential area, his thoughts cleared with each step, and he finally reached his destination. Once there, he slipped inside using an undetection spell and headed straight for the blood storage room.
Everything was going according to plan, until he sensed a presence. A woman was watching him from the hallway. Atelya Park, the mother of the group's witch, had detected him.
With a hostile look on her face, she began to use her magic, convinced that Kaius was an invading warlock in her territory.
Before the situation escalated, Black subtly intervened. With a wind spell, he caused Atelya's foot to bend slightly, simulating a sprain. She fell to the ground with a gasp, bewildered.
-Next time you try to hurt someone, make sure you are more powerful than your victim," said Kaius, his voice echoing without revealing his location.
Kaius took advantage of the confusion to leave the hospital, making sure the woman wasn't following him.Once safe, he deactivated his camouflage and continued exploring the city. Before long, he found a university.Something in the atmosphere stopped him, making him observe the campus from afar.It was then that he heard a discussion that caught his attention.
He recognized Lilian's voice, and his gaze shifted to a group. She and her friends were harassing two boys: one stocky and one slimmer.Lilian's words echoed like an unpleasant echo:
-You're a disgrace.You're good for nothing.You shouldn't be here, you good-for-nothing.
Kaius stopped in his tracks. Those words stuck in his mind, reliving memories he didn't want to face. For a moment, everything around him faded away, and he heard a girl crying. It was as if he was reliving something that didn't quite belong to him, but that affected him deeply.
When he came to, he walked straight towards the group.
-"Hey, you worthless, spoiled little girl," he said in a firm voice, facing Lilian, "Who do you think you are to judge someone when you can't do anything without James?
All three turned to look at him, including James, who stood motionless, doing nothing to stop them.Disappointment filled Kaius at the sight of him.The girls, for their part, glared at him.The witch of the group tried to trip him with a spell, but he was quicker and dodged her attack with ease.
Kaius stood in front of the two boys, crossing his arms in a protective gesture. When the witch attempted a stronger spell, this time eruption, he erected an anti-magic barrier, neutralizing her efforts. Then he approached Lilian and whispered low enough for only they could hear:
-If you ever do anything like this again, I will keep the promise I made to you, Lilian. And this time, I'll include your two friends... and you, little witch.Get out now, and don't bother them again.
To emphasize his threat, he briefly bared his fangs. The three of them beat a hasty retreat. Before leaving, Kaius gave James a disdainful look.
-If that's what you do with your girlfriend, maybe I should start calling her Dona instead of Lilian.I don't see the difference.
With that said, he walked away. He decided to go for breakfast and walked into the nearest diner, where he ordered a coffee. While enjoying it, he ran into Sheriff Eralme. They chatted for hours, and Kaius told him about his lineage, explaining that he was a descendant of the Savellini and that he planned to rebuild his family's old house. The conversation flowed naturally, and the two ended up becoming friends. When the sheriff mentioned the incident with the girls at the university, Kaius made it clear that, if needed, he would be there to help.
Later, Kaius went to the bank.He deposited two million dollars in an investment account, got a new card and bought himself a smart phone.
As night fell, he went back to James' house to drop off his things. Then, he decided to clear his head in the nearby woods. It was there that he saw a campfire and a party of college students. He went over and spent some time chatting and drinking with some students. However, Black interrupted him.
-There is danger," he warned him seriously.
Kaius scanned the surroundings until he saw a man leading a woman into a dark area. He thought they were going for privacy, but as he watched them from behind a tree, he saw the man showing fangs. It was a vampire.
As the vampire finished feeding and prepared to kill the girl, Kaius intervened. Taking advantage of the nearby land, he conjured stone spears and impaled it. As much as he hated acting like a hero, he knew it was a good facade. The nicer he looked, the less they would suspect him.
He cared for the girl, whose name was Nicki Milfer, a descendant of an ancient family. He used healing magic to heal her wounds, gave her water and, after implanting false memories, returned her to the party.
She looked back and there they were, annoying a group of girls. Lilian's condescending tone and the mocking laughter of her friends sent a torrent of anger coursing through her body. Kaius clenched his fists, feeling his magic shake in response.
In a low voice, almost as if speaking to himself, he muttered:
-They will not understand until they see what fear is...they must know what power is.
Without realizing it, his emotions boiled over. His eyes began to glow with the seal of arrows, that mark that always emerged when his limits were exceeded. The campfire that had been burning quietly in front of the students suddenly crackled, as if something was feeding it.The flames rose, changing color until it became a glowing black that seemed to devour the light around it.
The pillar of fire that formed in the center of the party caused everyone to fall silent. The three abusers stood transfixed, fear etched on their faces.Kaius' magic echoed in the air, and for an instant, no one dared to move.
When he regained control, the flames were extinguished, leaving only embers and ashes.Kaius took a deep breath, letting his mind calm down.He said nothing more. He turned to Nicki, who was looking at him with a mixture of confusion and gratitude.
-Take care of yourself, Nicki. It's time for me to go.
With those words, he said goodbye and left the party. When he was far enough away from the university and out of reach of any prying eyes, he spread his wings and soared into the night sky.The cool wind helped clear his mind, and after a few minutes he landed in front of the inn.
