“Cough! Cough! Ach-,” she rubbed her nose, fighting the urge to sneeze, and inhaled a deep breath to aid her aching temples.
Her throat felt sore and parched, still after enduring the hot elder tea early this morning. As she walked down the corridors towards the kitchen, the uncomfortable gazes earned a racing heartbeat.
Two weeks had passed since Gytha acknowledged her camaraderie with Dorothy had divided, leaving a subtle void in her chest. The clear warning in her eyes was enough to pass the message that there was no ‘us’ any longer.
She would sometimes leave her duty in the hope of catching her up, only to return feeling no sense of accomplishment. The smile on Dorothy’s face as she engaged with a group of servants was different from the cold frown enacted towards her, leaving her severely heartbroken.
