Just before another step, a bone-chilling shriek rattled across the path, echoing sufficiently for the night birds to flee and the mage's light flickering in a phenomenal accord, as he snapped his head behind.
Unsheathing his sword abruptly in a meticulous mechanical action, giving off a battle-metal sound, his face darkened, eyes sweeping in alert.
It shook every nerve in his body at the painful holler, the faint echoes stinging beneath the barricades, although nuanced but apparent, belonging to someone certainly from within.
Williams didn't retain the time to reminisce the voice but the despair in that howl drove his feet to commence thrusting.
