Chapter 43 Encountering a Shadow

Anita's unease persisted as she walked home, her senses on high alert. Every rustle of leaves and distant footstep seemed amplified, her nerves frayed by the lingering suspicion that someone was following her. She glanced over her shoulder several times, but each time, she found nothing but empty streets or the occasional passerby.

By the time she reached her front door, Anita was mentally exhausted. She shook her head, trying to dismiss the paranoia that had gripped her, telling herself it was just her imagination running wild. Still, she couldn't completely shake off the sense of being watched.

Once inside, the familiar warmth of her home offered some comfort, but the tension in her body refused to dissipate. She made her way upstairs to her room, hoping that the familiar surroundings would help her relax. As she entered, she noticed a slight chill in the air, a stark contrast to the usually cozy atmosphere.
