Beside her, Ms. Rivera was carefully sorting through old manuscripts and deciphering cryptic notes in faded ink. “This one mentions the fox bead,” Ms. Rivera said, sliding a brittle scroll toward Anita. “It’s not much, but it might give us some insight.” 


Anita gently unrolled the scroll, the fox pendant around her neck humming faintly as if it, too, was eager to uncover its secrets. Her eyes scanned the faded script, her heart sinking as the words painted a grim picture. 


The fox bead, forged by celestial flames, binds spirit and mortal. Its power rivals the gods but demands a heavy price from its bearer: the more it is used, the more it consumes.
