The soft glow of the pendant reflected off the dim light in Anita’s room as Max and Claire stood before her, their faces set with determination. Jace leaned against the window frame, his usual aloofness softened by a rare flicker of approval.

“You’re serious about this?” Anita asked, her voice laced with both admiration and concern.

Max crossed his arms, his jaw tightening. “We’ve come this far, Anita. You’re not fighting this battle alone, not anymore. If Kael’s forces are coming for you, then they’ll have to go through us too.”

Claire nodded, her usual artistic flair replaced with a quiet intensity. “I’ve been drawing and imagining battles for years. It’s time to step into one for real. Besides, you’re my best friend. I’m not sitting on the sidelines while you risk your life.”
