Chapter 94: Into the depth

Chapter 94: Into the Depths

The air grew heavier with each step as Anita and her group ventured deeper into the forest. After Varyn’s cryptic departure, the trees seemed alive, their gnarled branches stretching like skeletal hands, whispering secrets too ancient to understand.

Kael walked ahead, his blade drawn and glowing faintly, a ward against whatever lurked in the darkness. Anita followed closely, her staff pulsating with a faint light of its own. Jace was unusually quiet, his gaze shifting between the trees and Anita, as if searching for unseen threats.

“We shouldn’t trust anything he says,” Kael muttered, breaking the silence. “Varyn’s known for his lies. Even if we strike a deal, he’ll twist it to his advantage.”

“I know,” Anita said softly. “But what choice do we have? If he knows how to stop the Rift, we need that information.”

Jace glanced at her, his voice low. “We’re not sacrificing you, Anita. No matter what.”
